The team announced the move on Thursday after the team promoted <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/\/2018\/05\/23\/toronto-maple-leafs-brandon-pridham\/\" target=\"_self\"><strong>Brandon Pridham<\/strong> to the role of an assistant general manager on Wednesday<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Leafs?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">#Leafs<\/a> name Laurence Gilman as assistant general manager. He will be taking over as GM of the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Marlies?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">#Marlies<\/a> starting next season, and well as being involved with <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Leafs?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">#Leafs<\/a> player personnel, and managing the team\u2019s player development department and farm system.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Kristen Shilton (@kristen_shilton) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/kristen_shilton\/status\/999636804037939201?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">May 24, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h2>Leafs Hire Laurence Gilman<\/h2>\n<p>The 53-year-old spent the last three years working for the NHL. He helped make the expansion draft rules for the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/knights\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Vegas Golden Knights<\/a>. Gilman previously worked in the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/canucks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Vancouver Canucks<\/a> organization from 2008-15. He was vice president of hockey operations and assistant general manager.<\/p>\n<p>The Winnipeg native started his 20-plus year career in hockey with the original <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/jets\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Winnipeg Jets<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/coyotes\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Arizona Coyotes<\/a>. He was also a candidate for ECHL commissioner.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Gilman will be the Toronto Marlies general manager starting next season and help with player development and the farm system. He&#8217;ll also have a hand with player personnel decisions.<\/p>\n<p>The team has been making many front office moves. <strong>Kyle Dubas<\/strong> got promoted to general manager and both <strong>Lou Lamoriello<\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/huntema01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mark Hunter<\/a><\/strong> have left the organization this week. Lamoriello has gone on to run hockey operations for the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/islanders\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Islanders<\/a> and Hunter has yet to make a move. The Leafs have quickly hired Pridham and Gilman.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Laurence provides terrific experience to our management team,&#8221; Dubas <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsnet.ca\/hockey\/nhl\/maple-leafs-name-laurence-gilman-assistant-general-manager\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said in a statement<\/a>. &#8220;His 20-plus years in the NHL have seen him manage nearly every type of department in professional hockey and have success doing so.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2>What This Means For The Future<\/h2>\n<p>Gilman&#8217;s use of analytics is drawing praise from hockey experts. He has strong ties to the league office as well.<\/p>\n<p>He has previous experience running AHL teams as\u00a0he helped the Utica Comets reach the Calder Cup final.
