He has 48 goals and 111 assists for 159 career points in 538 career games. His best year was in the 2011-2012 season, he scored 16 goals and 17 assists for 33 points in 77 games with the Panthers.

This year he had one assist in eight games. He also added four minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 47.2 percent Corsi with a relative Corsi of -3.4 percent. Garrison is currently in the last year of a six-year, $27.6 million dollar contract with an AAV of $4.6 million per year. With the logjam on the Golden Knights blue line, he did not play much, and his contract made a trade cost prohibitive.

What This Means for the Future

Garrison was selected in the 2017 NHL expansion draft by the Golden Knights. He was also named an assistant captain of the team. Garrison has spent most of the year in the AHL with the Chicago Wolves. The young Vegas defencemen have played well and beat Garrison out for a spot this year. The 10-year veteran will look to get more NHL ice time next year and resurrect his career. Garrison still has the ability to fire a powerful slap shot but his lack of mobility has been exposed in recent season. He will also look to get his touch back on the power play that he had in his last year in Vancouver and first year in Tampa where he had double-digit power-play goals.

Main Photo Credit:
Embed from Getty Images

The Edmonton Oilers have signed free agent defencemen Jason Garrison to a professional try-out contract with an invitation to training camp.
