The Winnipeg Jets<\/a> announced that veteran\u00a0forward\u00a0Matt Hendricks<\/a><\/strong> is sidelined for\u00a0six-to-eight weeks with a lower-body injury.<\/p>\n

Winnipeg Jets Forward Matt Hendricks Injured<\/h1>\n

Although it’s unconfirmed when the injury occurred, it may be due to the previous injury sustained in February. Hendricks has been plagued by injuries for the last few seasons. This one will see the American native miss the rest of this season and most of the playoffs.<\/p>\n

Since signing with the Jets last summer, the 36-year-old has scored five goals and eight assists for 13 points. He also added 39 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 49.9 percent Corsi\u00a0and a relative Corsi of -1.1.<\/p>\n

Over his extensive nine-year NHL career Hendricks has played for the Colorado Avalanche<\/a>, Washington Capitals<\/a>,\u00a0Nashville Predators<\/a>,\u00a0Edmonton Oilers<\/a>\u00a0and now the Winnipeg Jets. He has put up 54 goals and 59 assists for 113 career points in 581 career games. He was originally drafted in the 5th round, 131 overall of the 2000 NHL draft by the Nashville Predators.<\/p>\n

What This Means for the Future.<\/h2>\n

Although not a huge contributor to the Jets, the bottom six forward wealth of experience and leadership will be missed. This loss of experience will be keenly felt currently as it adds to the already growing injury list. Losing Dmitry Kulikov<\/a> <\/strong>and goalies Steve Mason<\/a><\/strong> and\u00a0 Michael Hutchinson<\/a> <\/strong>means a defensive deficit. The Jets will need to look to other players in their push to the playoffs, and rely on younger players such as Connor Hellebuyck<\/a><\/strong> to continue to provide all-star play between the pipes. Hopefully, with the return of\u00a0Jacob Trouba<\/a><\/strong> will be a sign of better things to come.<\/p>\n

The Jets surprised\u00a0all by their performance this season, currently, only a few points behind the top of the Central Division. They will, however, need to work hard and be injury free to finish what they have started.<\/p>\n
