The injury comes at a terrible time for DeAngelo as he is developing into a solid defenseman. Coach Alain Vigneault had this to <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2018\/03\/14\/why-this-injury-may-be-especially-painful-for-tony-deangelo\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">say about it<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s unfortunate, but injuries are part of the game, players get them, and they\u2019ve got to work real hard with the right mindset to get themselves back in the groove.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut I do think that in the short amount of time that he was here, he was making some positive strides in his game, understanding the game, and coming along for us as a good right-handed D.<\/p>\n<p>So far this season he has eight assists in 32 games. He also added eleven minutes in penalties. His possession\u00a0numbers are 50.2% Corsi and a relative Corsi of 6%.<\/p>\n<p>Over his two year NHL career, DeAngelo has played for the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/coyotes\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Arizona Coyotes<\/a> and the Rangers. He has put up five goals and 17 assists for 22 career points in 71 career games. He was originally\u00a0drafted in the 1st round, 19th overall in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft by the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/lightning\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tampa Bay Lightning<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h1>What This Means for the Future<\/h1>\n<p>So far this year DeAngelo has been playing on the top defensive pairing with <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/skjeibr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brady Skjei<\/a><\/strong>. He is averaging 16:34 of ice time this year. He joins fellow defenseman <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/shattke01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kevin Shattenkirk<\/a><\/strong>(Torn Meniscus) and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/k\/kampfst01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Steven Kampfer<\/a><\/strong>(Fractured Hand) who are also out with injuries. DeAngelo has been a big producer on the Ranger second power-play unit picking up six of his eight assists with the man advantage.<\/p>\n<p>Expect <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/p\/pionkne01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Neal\u00a0Pionk<\/strong><\/a> or <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/staalma01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Marc Staal<\/a><\/strong> to take over on the first pairing while DeAngelo is out of service. The Rangers have had an off-year and seem to be in the phase of rebuilding when they traded two of their top players in <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/n\/nashri01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rick Nash<\/a><\/strong> to <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/bruins\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Boston Bruins<\/a> and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/mcdonry01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ryan McDonagh<\/a> <\/strong>to the Tampa Bay Lightning at the trade deadline. While doing this they brought in center\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/n\/namesvl01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Vladislav Namestnikov<\/a><\/strong> from Tampa Bay.
