He also added four minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 49.12 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of +2.74. This ranks fourth and third respectively for Canucks forwards with at least 20 games played this season.

Over his 12-year NHL career, Eriksson has played for the Dallas Stars, Boston Bruins and Vancouver Canucks. He has put up 233 goals and 318 assists for 551 career points in 840 career games. He was originally drafted in the second round, 33rd overall of the 2003 NHL draft by the Dallas Stars.

Going Forward

After this season Loui Eriksson has four more years left on his contract at $6 million per year. He signed a six-year deal in the summer of 2016 that will see him be paid $36 million over the length of the contract. Eriksson has not lived up to what the Canucks were expecting of him, scoring just 24 and now 23 points in back to back seasons.

This was coming off of a 63 point season with the Bruins in 2015/2016. Although injuries have not helped Eriksson in his time in Vancouver, this was a contract that people frowned upon from day one. Eriksson will have to look to come back strong next season to show he is worth what they paid for.

Main Photo:
Embed from Getty Images

The Vancouver Canucks announced that left wing Loui Eriksson is out for the season with a fractured rib.
