The Chicago Blackhawks<\/a> trade forward\u00a0Tommy Wingels<\/a><\/strong> to the Boston Bruins<\/a> in exchange for a 5th round pick. This deadline move is not very surprising as Chicago has found themselves outside of a playoff spot looking in for the first time in a long time.<\/p>\n

The Blackhawks completed a trade with the Bruins. The Blackhawks acquire a 5th round selection in exchange for Tommy Wingels.<\/p>\n

Tommy Wingels<\/h2>\n

In Wingels, the Bruins get a solid, cheap, depth player who can play all over the lineup. While more effective in a bottom six\u00a0role, Wingels has also played on the first line along with Jonathan Toews<\/a><\/strong> at times this year. This season he scored seven goals and five assists for 12 points in 57 games. He also added 43 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers are 48.39 percent Corsi\u00a0and a relative Corsi of -6.10. These numbers may look bad however,\u00a0Chicago is a very good possession team. Those totals are better compared to last season, where he scored seven goals and five assists for 12 points.<\/p>\n

Over his eight-year NHL career, Wingels has played for the San Jose Sharks<\/a>, Ottawa Senators<\/a>, and Chicago Blackhawks<\/a>. He has put up 60 goals and 78 assists for 138 points in 430 games. He was originally drafted in the 6th round, 177th overall of the 2008 NHL draft by the San Jose Sharks.<\/p>\n

Moving Forward<\/h2>\n

The Chicago Blackhawks are selling this deadline. They will most likely re-evaluate their team this summer and figure out where to go from there. They still have a strong core, but may need to make a move or two to get back to playoffs. Wingels makes $750,000 and is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. He is a cheap depth addition and has proved he can be useful. Last season he helped the Ottawa Senators get within one game of the Stanley Cup Finals.<\/p>\n
