Versteeg, who had just finished up preseason camp and play with the Oilers on a PTO, was offered a deal with the team; but opted to accept another offer with the Flames.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Hearing Kris Versteeg&#8217;s time with the Oilers is over. Sounds like he&#8217;s closing in on a deal with the Flames.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Darren Dreger (@DarrenDreger) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DarrenDreger\/status\/785894562254299137\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">October 11, 2016<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Pending final approval. 1 yr, $950,000 for Versteeg in Calgary.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Darren Dreger (@DarrenDreger) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DarrenDreger\/status\/785905077684809728\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">October 11, 2016<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3>Kris Vertseeg Signs One Year Deal with the Calgary Flames<\/h3>\n<p>Versteeg is considered past his prime, but still can serve as a veteran leader and bottom six player. \u00a0Since 2012, Versteeg has been a part of four separate teams, his longest stint being with the <strong>Chicago Blackhawks<\/strong> from 2013-2014 until 2014-2015. \u00a0During the 2015-2016 campaign, Versteeg was dealt to the <strong>Carolina Hurricanes<\/strong>.\u00a0He remained in Carolina until just past the halfway mark of the season, where he was traded yet again to the <strong>Los Angeles Kings<\/strong> in a deal involving <strong>Valentin Zykov<\/strong> and a 2016 conditional fifth round draft pick in the <strong>2016 NHL Entry Draft<\/strong>. \u00a0After this past season, Versteeg became a free agent, but signed a professional tryout offer with Edmonton. \u00a0Despite a satisfying training camp with the Oilers, Versteeg decided to join the rival Flames.<\/p>\n<p>The 30-year-old right-winger has had a solid career. He has logged 550 games played, scoring 131 goals, while adding 182 assists for 313 points.
