News broke early Tuesday afternoon that forward Kris Versteeg<\/a><\/strong> was parting ways with the Edmonton Oilers<\/strong> and is to be joining the Calgary Flames<\/strong>. \u00a0Versteeg is set to sign a one-year, $950,000 contract deal with Calgary. Versteeg, who had just finished up preseason camp and play with the Oilers on a PTO, was offered a deal with the team; but opted to accept another offer with the Flames.<\/p>\n

Kris Vertseeg Signs One Year Deal with the Calgary Flames<\/h3>\n

Versteeg is considered past his prime, but still can serve as a veteran leader and bottom six player. \u00a0Since 2012, Versteeg has been a part of four separate teams, his longest stint being with the Chicago Blackhawks<\/strong> from 2013-2014 until 2014-2015. \u00a0During the 2015-2016 campaign, Versteeg was dealt to the Carolina Hurricanes<\/strong>.\u00a0He remained in Carolina until just past the halfway mark of the season, where he was traded yet again to the Los Angeles Kings<\/strong> in a deal involving Valentin Zykov<\/strong> and a 2016 conditional fifth round draft pick in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft<\/strong>. \u00a0After this past season, Versteeg became a free agent, but signed a professional tryout offer with Edmonton. \u00a0Despite a satisfying training camp with the Oilers, Versteeg decided to join the rival Flames.<\/p>\n

The 30-year-old right-winger has had a solid career. He has logged 550 games played, scoring 131 goals, while adding 182 assists for 313 points. In his split season this past year, he played in a total of 77 games; scoring 15 goals and 23 assists for 38 points.<\/p>\n
