The Vancouver Canucks<\/a>\u00a0held a press conference today where they announced a three-year contract extension for general manager Jim Benning<\/a><\/strong>. Benning was originally named the Canucks general manager in May of 2014.<\/p>\n

Jim Benning Signs Three-Year Extension to Remain Vancouver Canucks General Manager<\/h1>\n

Benning spoke about the team and his extension in\u00a0team media\u00a0release<\/a>. “I’m grateful to the Aquilini family and to Trevor Linden<\/strong><\/a> for the commitment they’ve made to me and for their confidence in our long-term vision for the Vancouver Canucks.”<\/p>\n

“I’m excited about the direction of our team and the depth and talent we continue to build. I believe we are on the right track and I am pleased to continue the work we started four years ago when we set out to build a championship team.”<\/p>\n

Letter to Fans<\/h2>\n

Canucks president of hockey\u00a0operations Trevor Linden<\/strong><\/a> also released a letter to Canucks fans and season ticket holders on Wednesday. The letter is similar to the letter released<\/a> last week by the New York Rangers<\/a>. It outlines the Canucks plans for the trade deadline, and a plan to rebuild around prospects, and young NHLers Brock Boeser<\/a><\/strong> and Bo Horvat<\/a><\/strong>. The letter appears to be a signal to fans to be prepared\u00a0if some veteran names are traded away at the NHL Trade Deadline.<\/p>\n

“Moving forward, the next several months will be important as we add even more prospects to our pool and build on the positive steps we have seen this year,” Linden wrote.\u00a0“We still need to be patient, but I am excited about our journey ahead together.”<\/p>\n

Linden said the Canucks goal remains unchanged: “to build a young, fast exciting Canucks team that competes every night and ultimately has a chance to bring the Stanley Cup to Vancouver.”<\/p>\n
