This season he has played 25 games. He has achieved a .912 save percentage and a 2.71 goals-against average in those games. Compared to last season, his SV% has decreased this year from the lofty .931% he had in 2016-17, but he has played and started in more games. Over his short two-year NHL career the 28-year old has played solely for the San Jose Sharks, who he originally joined undrafted. He has played 45 games. His career GAA is 2.30 with a career SV% of .920.

What This Means for the Future.

It a good deal for the Sharks. Dell is an experienced goaltender and can be a reliable backup, but also has the potential to be given more responsibility in the net. Although he has not played in the NHL long, he has a wealth of knowledge in different leagues that he can contribute to the team and provide a reliable option should Martin Jones be hurt or struggling.

Dell had been rumoured to be involved in trade discussions leading up to the deadline, but with the move, the Sharks show that they are committed to winning now, and to having a strong tandem between the pipes.

Main Photo:
Embed from Getty Images

The San Jose Sharks have agreed to a contract extension with backup goaltender Aaron Dell.
