We take a look at each rumor and give analysis on it. Today we look at the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/lightning\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tampa Bay Lightning<\/a> gauging interest after <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/rangers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Rangers<\/a> defenseman <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/mcdonry01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ryan McDonagh<\/a><\/strong>. The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/kings\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Los Angeles Kings<\/a> asking about <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/senators\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ottawa Senators<\/a> blueliner <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/p\/phanedi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dion Phaneuf<\/a><\/strong> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/penguins\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pittsburgh Penguins<\/a> trying to bring <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/cullema01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Matt Cullen<\/a><\/strong> back.<\/p>\n<h1><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/mcdonry01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ryan McDonagh<\/a><\/h1>\n<p><em>Rumor: According to TSN\u2019s Bob McKenzie, the Lightning is showing significant interest in acquiring Rangers captain and defenseman <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/mcdonry01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ryan McDonagh<\/a>. The asking price would likely be first-rounder and a couple one of prospects. One of those would have to be elite.<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">&#8230;Both teams appear to looking at the usual (trade bait) suspects. General manager Jeff Gorton is taking offers on anyone not named <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/lundqhe01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Henrik Lundqvist<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Tampa\u2019s defence has been treading water since the loss of <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/hedmavi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Victor Hedman<\/a><\/strong> and McDonagh would shore up the blueline. McDonagh could end up forming a partnership with former Ranger <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/stralan01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Anton Stralman<\/a><\/strong> if the trade does happen.<\/p>\n<p>However, the Lightning might not have the necessary assets to pull off the move. Young players like <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/sergami01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mikhail Sergachev<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/p\/pointbr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brayden Point<\/a><\/strong> are off limits and New York would likely need someone close to being NHL ready. <strong>Brett Howden,<\/strong> <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/k\/koekksl01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Slater Koekkoek<\/a><\/strong>, and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/d\/dotchja01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jake Dotchin<\/a><\/strong> are a few names the Rangers would likely go after.<\/p>\n<h1><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/p\/phanedi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dion Phaneuf<\/a><\/h1>\n<p><em>Rumor: During the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/video\/insider-trading-asking-price-set-for-nash~1320359\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">TSN Insider Trading segment<\/a>, the panel speculated on the Kings going after <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/p\/phanedi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dion Phaneuf<\/a><\/strong> from the Senators. General manager Pierre Dorion met with Eugene Melnyk in Barbados to go over the team\u2019s plans.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Analysis: The Sens aren\u2019t going into a full fire sale, but they are willing to trim some fat from their salary cap. Los Angeles would be a good landing spot for Phaneuf because he\u2019d be a good fourth defenseman behind <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/d\/doughdr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Drew Doughty<\/a><\/strong>. However, the Kings don\u2019t want to have all of his $7 million salary.<\/p>\n<p>Kings&#8217; general manager <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/blakero01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rob Blake<\/a><\/strong> won\u2019t make the move unless the Senators eat some of Phaneuf\u2019s salary. It was speculated that trading the often maligned defenseman is a long shot. However, the lack of defensemen on the trade block could make the 32-year-old defenseman a target at the deadline.<\/p>\n<h1><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/cullema01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Matt Cullen<\/a><\/h1>\n<p><em>Rumor: In Elliotte Friedman\u2019s 31 Thoughts column, he speculated that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sportsnet.ca\/hockey\/nhl\/31-thoughts-trying-remedy-nhls-goalie-interference-controversy\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the Pittsburgh Penguins might trade<\/a> to bring <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/cullema01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Matt Cullen<\/a><\/strong> back from the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/wild\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Minnesota Wild<\/a> to the Steel City as a depth centre.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Analysis: Cullen hasn\u2019t exactly wowed coach <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/boudrbr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bruce Boudreau<\/a> with his play. It would be strange for the Wild to trade a player when they\u2019re locked in a battle for the postseason. However, the Pens have kicked the tires on a lot of centers and the answer could be Cullen. He\u2019s familiar with the system and knows what it takes for a deep postseason run.
