The NHL Department of Player Safety<\/strong> has announced that they have suspended Philadelphia Flyers defensemen\u00a0Radko Gudas<\/a><\/strong> for six games. The suspension comes after his late his against Boston Bruins<\/strong> rookie Austin Czarnik<\/strong>. Along with the six games, he will be forfiting $245,000 in salary.<\/p>\n

Gudas is no stranger to receiving supplemental discipline. He was suspended for three games during the 2015-16 season for an illegal check to the head on then Ottawa Senator Mika Zibanejad<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

He has also escaped suspensions as well. His most recent came a few games ago when he was called for boarding New York Ranger<\/strong> Jimmy Vesey<\/strong>. While the NHL deemed that hit non-suspension worthy, Gudas was unable to escape on this one.<\/p>\n

Ron Hextall<\/a><\/strong> spoke earlier today on his defensemen’s style of play and the attention it has gotten from the league.<\/p>\n

“It’s something that Gudas has got to be aware of,” Hextall said.<\/a> “Gudas is a very effective player. He’s got to play physical. There’s just the odd thing that he has to take out of his game.”<\/p>\n

The Department of Player Safety cited a combination of the lateness of the hit and the forceful head contact as reasons for the level of discipline. The injury to Czarnik also played part in the ruling as the Bruins rookie has been diagnosed with a concussion. Prior history\u00a0came in to play as well.<\/p>\n

The Flyers are already thin on the blue line and become even thinner with this suspension. Michael Del Zotto<\/a><\/strong> will be out for at least four weeks with a lower-body injury and Brandon Manning<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

The team will likely call up a body from Lehigh Valley when they head out for their west coast road trip. Look for it to potentially be the likes of Sam Morin<\/strong> or T.J. Brennan<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n
