Tuesday night, while playing the Winnipeg Jets<\/a>, Colorado Avalanche<\/a>\u00a0goaltender\u00a0Semyon Varlamov<\/a><\/strong> pulled himself from the game with just under six minutes left in the second period. He has a muscle-related lower-body injury and is day-to-day. This off-season Varlamov had surgery to repair his groin,\u00a0which he injured last season\u00a0limiting him to\u00a0just 24 games played. Fortunately, his backup Jonathan Bernier<\/a><\/strong> was able to\u00a0help the help the Avalanche earn an important divisional\u00a0win in overtime.<\/p>\n

Semyon Varlamov Pulls Himself From Game In Second Period<\/h1>\n

Fans also were given some positive news\u00a0the next day when the coach Jared Bednar<\/strong>\u00a0was quoted<\/a> saying “It’s muscular, and he’s feeling good this morning.”\u00a0He is\u00a0now considered to be day-to-day and will most likely be out until\u00a0after the teams league-mandated five-day break from team activities.<\/p>\n

The Avalanche worried about his\u00a0groin being a problem this year. They made sure to sign Bernier,\u00a0a solid backup in the off-season.\u00a0Bernier will start the next two games against the Columbus Blue Jackets<\/a> and Minnesota Wild.\u00a0<\/a>He will attempt to keep the Avalanche three-game winning streak going as they push for the last wild-card spot in the Western Conference. Andrew Hammond<\/a><\/strong> was called up from the Belleville Senators to be\u00a0Bernier’s\u00a0back up until Varlamov returns from injury.<\/p>\n

Other Injuries<\/h2>\n

The Avalanche are also dealing with injuries\u00a0<\/strong>to forwards\u00a0J.T. Compher<\/a> <\/strong>(upper-body) and Sven Andrighetto<\/a><\/strong> (lower-body). Their injuries are also considered day-to-day. Like Varlamov, the forwards are expected\u00a0to be ready after the team’s bye week. Meanwhile,\u00a0 defenseman\u00a0Tyson Barrie<\/a><\/strong> (broken hand) is\u00a0out four-to-six weeks<\/a>\u00a0after he had a procedure done on the injury about a week ago. The good news for the Avalanche is that this flurry of injuries have all happened\u00a0just as their bye week rolled around. Other then Barrie, the team will be back to full strength after the bye. The team will have to be careful when they bring back Varlamov as his groin has become a lingering injury.<\/p>\n
