The Vancouver Canucks<\/a> and Los Angeles Kings<\/a> completed a minor deal this morning, as forward Nic Dowd<\/a><\/strong> was sent to the Canucks in exchange for defenceman Jordan Subban<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Vancouver Canucks Acquire Nic Dowd, Send Jordan Subban to Los Angeles<\/h1>\n

Nic Dowd, 27, was a seventh round draft pick of the Kings back in 2009. He played all four years at St. Cloud State before signing with Los Angeles, where he would spend two seasons in the minors with the Manchester Monarchs and Ontario Reign.<\/p>\n

He broke into the Kings lineup a year ago, appearing in 70 games largely in the bottom six. The native of Huntsville, Alabama would net six goals and 22 points. Though he was a relatively productive piece of the Kings fourth line in 2016-17, Dowd has found himself in a tough position early this season after scoring just one assist through 16 games.<\/p>\n

The Kings didn’t have a need for the 6’2″ center anymore, especially after the depth acquisition of Torrey Mitchell<\/a><\/strong>. With Jussi Jokinen<\/a><\/strong> and Jonny Brodzinski<\/a><\/strong> on the wings as well, Los Angeles didn’t have a reason to play Dowd.<\/p>\n

Coming in at a cheap $640,000 cap hit, Dowd makes sense for Vancouver. With the recent injury to Bo Horvat<\/a>, the Canucks were looking to add another centre to the mix. In order to do so, Vancouver had to ship out 22-year-old, right-handed defenceman Jordan Subban.<\/p>\n

A former fourth round pick and brother of P.K.<\/strong><\/a> and Malcolm<\/strong><\/a>, Jordan has yet to make his NHL debut. He was in the midst of his third season with the Utica Comets, where he had posted 36 points in each of his first two years.\u00a0Though he is likely bound for the Ontario Reign to begin his tenure with L.A., Subban’s acquisition will put pressure on Christian Folin<\/a><\/strong>, who is currently on the Kings third pairing.<\/p>\n
