The 2018 World Junior Championships are right around the corner. Countries are starting to pick their teams. 16 forwards, nine defencemen and three goaltenders were named to the Team Finland Selection Camp Roster for the 2018 World Junior Hockey Championships today. The 28-man camp\u00a0will eventually need to be whittled\u00a0down to a 23-man final roster, likely 13 forwards, seven defenceman and three goaltenders.<\/p>\n

This team should have a strong defence. Some of the more recognizable names on the blueline include Vancouver Canucks<\/a> prospect Olli Juolevi<\/a><\/strong>, Dallas Stars<\/a>\u00a0prospect Miro Heiskanen<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0<\/strong>Boston Bruins<\/a> prospect\u00a0Urho Vaakanainen<\/a><\/strong>, and Chicago Blackhawks<\/a>\u00a0prospect Henri Jokiharju<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Upfront, the Finns have Carolina Hurricanes<\/a> forward Janne Kuokkanen<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0Florida Panthers<\/a>\u00a0prospect Aleksi Heponiemi<\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0Winnipeg Jets<\/a> prospect Kristian Vesalainen<\/a><\/strong>, Nashville Predators<\/a> prospect\u00a0Eeli Tolvanen<\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0Montreal Canadiens<\/a>\u00a0prospect Joni Ikonen<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and 2018 draft eligible Rasmus Kupari<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0in training camp.<\/p>\n

Finland is looking to get over their ninth-place result in last year’s tournament. However, they won this tournament in 2016. They also won the Under-18 World Championship in 2016. The majority of the 2016 U-18 team will be part of this year’s World Junior Team. Finland plays their first tournament game on December 26th, against Canada, in Buffalo, New York.<\/p>\n
