Bouwmeester <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2017\/09\/19\/two-st-louis-blues-injuries-announced\/\" target=\"_self\">fractured his ankle<\/a> after taking a puck to it during training camp. He missed 21 games.<\/p>\n<h1>Jay  Bouwmeester&#8217;s Impact<\/h1>\n<p>While the Blues have been winning without Bouwmeester, they have been struggling on the penalty kill. The Blues penalty kill percentage is currently 22<sup>nd<\/sup> in the league at 78.3 percent. Last season when Bouwmeester was healthy, the Blues penalty kill percentage was third in the league at 84.8 percent.<\/p>\n<p>Head coach <strong>Mike Yeo<\/strong> had this to <a href=\"http:\/\/lkorac10.blogspot.com\/2017\/11\/11-21-17-oilers-blues-gameday-lineup.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">say about his return<\/a>, \u201cA veteran presence, defender, skating ability, definitely have missed him on the penalty kill, looking forward to getting him back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Blues starting goaltender <strong><a  target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/a\/allenja01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&#038;utm_source=direct&#038;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jake  Allen<\/a><\/strong> is <a href=\"http:\/\/lkorac10.blogspot.com\/2017\/11\/11-21-17-oilers-blues-gameday-lineup.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">also pleased with his return<\/a>, \u201cConsistent play, penalty kill, eats up big minutes against opposing teams, which is tough to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Fitting Bouwmeester In<\/h2>\n<p>With the return of Bouwmeester, the defensive pairings will look like this:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><a  target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/e\/edmunjo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&#038;utm_source=direct&#038;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Joel  Edmundson<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a  target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/p\/pietral01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&#038;utm_source=direct&#038;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alex  Pietrangelo<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Jay  Bouwmeester<\/strong> and <strong><a  target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/p\/parayco01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&#038;utm_source=direct&#038;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Colton  Parayko<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><a  target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/d\/dunnvi02.html?utm_campaign=Linker&#038;utm_source=direct&#038;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Vince  Dunn<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a  target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/borturo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&#038;utm_source=direct&#038;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Robert  Bortuzzo<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">For now, Bouwmeester is replacing <strong><a  target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/gunnaca01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&#038;utm_source=direct&#038;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Carl  Gunnarsson<\/a><\/strong> in the lineup. Once Bouwmeester gets back into the swing of things and feels more comfortable, he could switch places with <strong>Joel  Edmundson<\/strong> and be part of the top pairing with <strong>Alex  Pietrangelo<\/strong>. It will probably take a few games before this is even considered. Rookie <strong>Vince  Dunn<\/strong> gets to keep his spot in the lineup for now.<\/p>\n<h3>Bouwmeester&#8217;s Career<\/h3>\n<p>Bouwmeester was drafted third overall in 2002 by the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/nhl-teams\/panthers\/\" target=\"_self\">Florida Panthers<\/a>. He has played 1071 career games over 14 seasons with the Florida Panthers, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/nhl-teams\/flames\/\" target=\"_self\">Calgary Flames<\/a>, and St. Louis Blues. In those 1071 career games, he has 391 points. Between 2004 and 2014, he appeared in 737 consecutive NHL games, which is one of the longest iron-man streaks in NHL history.
