The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/nhl-teams\/sharks\/\" target=\"_self\">San Jose Sharks<\/a> forward reached this milestone in a loss to his previous team, the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/nhl-teams\/bruins\/\" target=\"_self\">Boston Bruins<\/a>. His milestone point came from a backhand goal on <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/k\/khudoan01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Anton Khudobin<\/a><\/strong>, assisted by <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/heedti01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tim Heed<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/burnsbr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brent Burns<\/a><\/strong>. Thornton reached this feat in 1,455 games played, Kurri reached the same milestone 1,251 games played in his career. If Thornton can secure another contract after this season, he could push further into the ranks of the greats. While he does not have a Stanley Cup yet, the fact that he has an Olympic Gold Medal and a Hart Trophy in his cabinet, along with his place on the career points list, should make Thornton a sure bet for future enshrinement in the Hockey Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n<p>Joe Thornton gets the chance to pass Kurri on Monday when the Sharks host the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/nhl-teams\/maple-leafs\/\" target=\"_self\">Toronto Maple Leafs<\/a>. It should be an emotional night, as <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/marlepa01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Patrick Marleau<\/a><\/strong> plays his first game in San Jose as a member of the visiting team.
