The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/nhl-teams\/penguins\/\" target=\"_self\">Pittsburgh Penguins<\/a> had been reportedly trying to acquire <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/sheahri01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Riley Sheahan<\/a><\/strong> to fill their third centre role since the summer. The Penguins got their guy after Detroit <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2017\/10\/20\/andreas-athanasiou-re-signs-detroit-red-wings\/\" target=\"_self\">agreed to<\/a> to terms with Athanasiou.<\/p>\n<p>In exchange the Penguins give up <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/w\/wilsosc01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Scott Wilson<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>and a third round draft pick. Detroit also gives up a fifth round pick to Pittsburgh.<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/twitter.com\/TSNBobMcKenzie\/status\/921856130782978048<\/p>\n<h1>Detroit Red Wings Send <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/sheahri01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Riley Sheahan<\/a> to Pittsburgh Penguins<\/h1>\n<p>The Penguins had been looking for a third line center ever since <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/boninni01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nick Bonino<\/a><\/strong> signed a <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2017\/07\/01\/nick-bonino-signs-predators\/\" target=\"_self\">four-year deal<\/a> with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/nhl-teams\/predators\/\" target=\"_self\">Nashville Predators<\/a>. To make matters worse, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/cullema01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Matt Cullen<\/a><\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2017\/08\/16\/matt-cullen-signs\/\" target=\"_self\">signed with<\/a> the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/nhl-teams\/wild\/\" target=\"_self\">Minnesota Wild<\/a> which really hampered the Penguins center depth behind <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/crosbsi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sidney Crosby<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/malkiev01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Evgeni Malkin<\/a><\/strong>. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/mckeggr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Greg McKegg<\/a><\/strong> had been being the third line center with <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/rowneca01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Carter Rowney<\/a><\/strong> as the fourth line center. With this move, McKegg will move down to the fourth line.<\/p>\n<p>Pittsburgh has made a habit of acquiring players who have low value and having them turn their careers around a bit and hope this trade with Sheahan is no different. Sheahan shot 1% last year and didn&#8217;t score before the last game of the regular season. There&#8217;s a very low chance that happens again as he&#8217;s a career 8% shooter. He could put up between 10-15 goals for the Penguins and 25 points this season, as he&#8217;ll have better linemates than he did in Detroit.<\/p>\n<p>In<strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/w\/wilsosc01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Scott Wilson<\/a><\/strong>, the Red Wings get a capable bottom six forward with some scoring ability. He wasn&#8217;t getting much playing time this season due to the Penguins wing depth. The Wings can use the extra depth on the wing.
