Strader was known for his work with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/nhl-teams\/stars\/\" target=\"_self\">Dallas Stars<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/nhl-teams\/red-wings\/\" target=\"_self\">Detroit Red Wings<\/a>. He was a recipient of the Foster Hewitt Award, equivalent to enshrinement in the Hockey Hall of Fame for broadcasters.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">It is with sad news that we announce that Dave Strader has passed away this morning at the age of 62. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/CMlpJAQn01\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pic.twitter.com\/CMlpJAQn01<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Dallas Stars (@DallasStars) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DallasStars\/status\/914492100032548865?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">October 1, 2017<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h1>Dave Strader Dies at 62<\/h1>\n<p>Known as &#8220;The Voice,&#8221; became the play-by-play announcer for the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/stars\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dallas Stars<\/a> during the 2015-16 season. Prior to this, Strader was the television voice of the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/red-wings\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Detroit Red Wings<\/a> from 1985 to 1996. Strader also worked for the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/nhl-teams\/coyotes\/\" target=\"_self\">Arizona Coyotes<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/nhl-teams\/panthers\/\" target=\"_self\">Florida Panthers<\/a> and calling games for NBC Sportsnet and Versus.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Everyone who knew him, and everyone who was able to listen to him call games, is saddened to learn about the passing of Dave Strader,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/stars\/news\/dallas-stars-stars-mourn-passing-of-dave-strader\/c-291498308\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said Stars President and CEO Jim Lites.<\/a> &#8220;His voice is synonymous with hockey to fans all over the globe and he built a connection for so many fans to this game.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Strader was diagnosed with\u00a0cholangiocarcinoma, a form of bile cancer, following the 2015-16 season. As a result, he was limited to calling just five games for the Stars in the 2016-17 season.<\/p>\n<p>In his return to the Stars broadcasting booth on February 18, Strader was welcomed back with a standing ovation from the Dallas crowd. Stars captain <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/bennja01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jamie Benn<\/a><\/strong> led the team in a sticks-up salute to Strader following the game.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Sad to hear the news this morning about our friend Dave Strader. He was inducted into the\u00a0Adirondack Hockey Hall of Fame in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to joining the Stars, he called NHL games nationally for NBCSN.
