Now it\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/2017\/08\/22\/tsp-chicago-blackhawks-prospects\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Alex DeBrincat<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Listed at 5\u20197&#8243; and 165 pounds, the 19-year-old forward recently helped the Erie Otters to an OHL title. He is unequivocally Chicago\u2019s most exciting prospect.\u00a0At the team\u2019s annual training camp festival on Saturday (sold out, I might add), he impressed at left wing alongside captain <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/t\/toewsjo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jonathan Toews<\/a><\/strong> and returnee <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/saadbr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brandon Saad<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, he appeared on Kane and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/schmani01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nick Schmaltz<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s line, and earned rave reviews from the coach for his weekend\u2019s efforts.<\/p>\n<h1>Will the Chicago Blackhawks Resist the Temptation of Alex DeBrincat?<\/h1>\n<p>\u201cI think we want to see him do what he does best,&#8221; Blackhawks coach <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/q\/quennjo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Joel Quenneville<\/a><\/strong> said via the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/sports\/capitals\/slender-prospect-with-eye-for-goals-eyes-spot-on-blackhawks\/2017\/09\/16\/7555af72-9b16-11e7-af6a-6555caaeb8dc_story.html?utm_term=.55b27e6e776f\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Washington Post<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8221;I think he&#8217;s got great instincts offensively and he finds the puck in dangerous areas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe comes up with loose pucks because he&#8217;s got the hockey sense of how he handles and uses his stick, and he\u2019s playing with a couple of guys who are the same.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAround the net he&#8217;s got a great finish. I don&#8217;t think we want to see him do anything different than how he&#8217;s played in junior; and his whole life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe reading and anticipation of plays, communicating without having to communicate, they know where it\u2019s going to go next and that\u2019s something that will only get better as they get accustomed to playing together.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Chances of Making the Team<\/h2>\n<p>Does the latter part of that quote signal DeBrincat may be soon for the team?<\/p>\n<p>Originally long money to do so, DeBrincat has beefed his claim to a spot somewhere among the \u2018Hawks lines for opening night.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailyfaceoff.com\/teams\/chicago-blackhawks\/line-combinations\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Some sites already have DeBrincat as high as the second line<\/a>, alongside Kane and Schmaltz, his scrimmage partners on Sunday.\u00a0The comparisons here are obvious.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/p\/panarar01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Artemi Panarin<\/a><\/strong>, a similarly small winger (5\u201911&#8243;, 170 pounds) started in that position the previous two seasons for Chicago, and capitalised massively on the kind of attention Kane draws.\u00a0However, Panarin already had five professional seasons in the KHL under his belt before signing with the Blackhawks. DeBrincat has just three major junior seasons.<\/p>\n<p>That situation would also see DeBrincat playing on a small line. Kane (5\u201911, 177 lbs) and Schmaltz (6\u20190, 176 lbs) are slender customers also. They would be at risk of their opposition deploying a bully-line to attempt to keep them out.<\/p>\n<p>Would DeBrincat work on a lower line, tasked with producing the bulk of the scoring? Potentially, alongside the powerful, defensively-minded <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/w\/wingeto01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tommy Wingels<\/a><\/strong>, and steadily improving <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/k\/kerota01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tanner Kero<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0The \u2018Hawks could also consider a combination of DeBrincat with the experienced <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/a\/anisiar01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Artem Anisimov<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/sharppa01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Patrick Sharp<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>With <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/hossama01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Marian Hossa<\/a><\/strong> out, and with the annual salary cap crunch coming to roost, Chicago needs to find offensive production somewhere.\u00a0An ideal world sees DeBrincat wait it out another year with the Rockford IceHogs.
