This will result in him missing at least the start of training camp, which begins Thursday. President of Hockey Operations <strong><a  target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/d\/davidjo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&#038;utm_source=direct&#038;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">John  Davidson<\/a><\/strong> made the announcement Wednesday during the club&#8217;s Media Day. When asked to elaborate on the injury, Davidson said, \u201cEvery time he goes to work out and train, it becomes very, very bothersome.\u201d Clarkson will continue to attempt to rehabilitate his back and make his way back on the roster, according to Davidson.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/bluejackets\/video\/embed\/davidson-on-clarksons-health\/t-277437100\/c-44779903?autostart=false\" width=\"540\" height=\"360\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Of most concern to the fans is the cap hit of Clarkson\u2019s contract. Davidson confirmed that the club has insured Clarkson&#8217;s contract, should it assign him to the long term injured reserve list. Clarkson has four years remaining on a seven-year, $36.75 million contract signed with the <strong>Toronto Maple Leafs<\/strong> prior to the 2013-14 season. The Maple Leafs and Blue Jackets completed a trade in February 2015 which sent injured Jackets forward <strong><a  target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/hortona01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&#038;utm_source=direct&#038;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nathan  Horton<\/a><\/strong> to Toronto. Clarkson played in three games following the trade before sustaining a torn oblique muscle and missing the remainder of the season.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>New Jersey Devils<\/strong> originally signed Clarkson as an undrafted free agent in 2005.
