That is the internally-mandated deadline for all contract disputes between management and players. The policy was put in place by Charles Wang, the Islanders’ previous owner. He wanted prevent possibly vitriolic contract issues from carrying over into training camp; as well as to ensure that players and coaches alike are focused solely on preparing for the coming season.

Ryan Strome Re-Signs With Islanders

Following a stellar 2014-15 regular season in which he accumulated 50 points in the form of 17 goals and 33 assists; Strome’s 2015-16 season proved to be quite the letdown. In 71 regular season games, he managed to add a paltry total of 28 points from eight goals and 20 assists. This matched his total of 28 penalty minutes on the season. Many pundits were adamant that 2015-16 would serve as Strome’s breakout year. The lack of production certainly hurt his position within the recent contract talks.

Despite the eleventh-hour nature of this re-signing, Strome remained adamant throughout the process that he would reach a deal with the Islanders. He also insistes that he will rebound from last year’s low production. To that end, a two-year, $5 million contract is in his best interest, as well as that of the club. If he manages to replicate or improve upon his 2014-15 totals, the Islanders will most likely offer him a long-term contract. If he shows that season to be a one-off, however, the short length of the contract will allow the club to reassess its’ position regarding his spot on the team. This bridge deal gives Strome the opportunity to prove his worth.

Main Image:

Embed from Getty Images

According to multiple reports today, Ryan Strome has signed a new contract with the New York Islanders. The terms are yet to be released officially, but reports suggest a two-year, $5 million contract. @NYIslanders announced that Ryan Strome has agreed to terms on a 2-year deal.
