His deal has a length of four years and is worth $4.5 million per season.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">What Will Ryan O\u2019Reilly Bring to His\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1\">New Team?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">O\u2019Reilly is an outstanding two-way centre, arguably only second to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/bergepa01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Patrice Bergeron<\/a> in the league. As such, he will undoubtedly be a top asset even at 31 years of age.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">His combination of grit, natural defensive talents and speed have helped him develop into this player. He has the on-ice attitude to hustle and cover teammates,\u00a0<\/span>plus a offensive strong skill set. Although playmaking is his top attribute, he can score when needed, shown by his 256 goal-tally.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">O&#8217;Reilly is also a fantastic leader. Each club he has played for has benefited from his guidance and his new team will be no different. The youngsters will be able to follow his example when developing their careers and his fellow veterans will also be thrilled to have another strong voice in the room.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">O\u2019Reilly\u2019s NHL Career So Far<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">After a respectable junior career with the OHL\u2019s Erie Otters, O\u2019Reilly was drafted 33rd overall in 2009 by the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/avalanche\/\" target=\"_self\">Colorado Avalanche<\/a>. He<\/span><span class=\"s1\">\u00a0surprisingly making the roster out off his first training camp, to make his NHL debut in October 2009. From then on, O\u2019Reilly became a key part of the squad during his six-year tenure.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Despite the team\u2019s struggles during a difficult period for Colorado, the Canadian scored 246 points, including 90 goals, in 427 appearances. He was also awarded the Lady Byng Trophy for his performances and conduct during the 2013-14 season.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In June 2015, O\u2019Reilly was traded to the Buffalo Sabres. He was notoriously dissatisfied during his time in upstate New York, famously stating he lost his love of the game as a result of the Sabres\u2019 poor form.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Nevertheless, O\u2019Reilly himself played well. During his time wearing blue, yellow and white, he scored 176 points, including 65 goals in 224 appearances. This made it easy for Buffalo to find suitors when trading him in July 2018.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Ultimately, O\u2019Reilly landed with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/blues\/\" target=\"_self\">St. Louis Blues<\/a>. He enjoyed a career year in his first season, with 77 points in 82 games.\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2019\/06\/20\/ryan-oreilly-of-the-st-louis-blues-wins-selke-trophy\/\" target=\"_self\">This earned him a second All-Star Game appearance and the Selke Trophy as the best two-way forward.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2019\/06\/12\/jordan-binnington-leads-blues-stanley-cup\/\" target=\"_self\">Not only that, but he would help the Blues would turnaround their season from the bottom of the standings to Stanley Cup champions.<\/a> O\u2019Reilly was also awarded the Conn Smythe as playoffs MVP.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2023\/02\/17\/st-louis-blues-trade-ryan-oreilly\/\" target=\"_self\">O\u2019Reilly was ultimately traded at last season\u2019s deadline to the Toronto Maple Leafs, playing a total of 13 games.<\/a> However, he will be fondly remembered by Blues fans for their Cup run, his 172 points in 327 games and as their most recent captain.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Main Photo: Jim Rassol-USA TODAY Sports<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It has been confirmed that Ryan O\u2019Reilly has signed a contract with the Nashville Predators .
