After spending the first part of the season with the St Louis Blues, he was moved to the Vegas Golden Knights. A strong rest of the regular season and playoffs signalled a significant pay raise was coming. This is a massive boost for the club and the player.

Why Barbashev Is Worth The Contract

One of the most significant acquisitions at the trade deadline proved to be just that. Barbashev brings everything to the table. He is a big body that plays physically and can produce. Barbashev had a career year last season with the Blues and followed it up with a similar campaign. He scored 16 goals, 29 assists, and 45 points. He settled in nicely and performed well in the playoffs. His physicality was on full display (182 hits) as well as his ability to block shots (46). The most dominant line in the playoffs for Vegas saw him on it. Their goal differential was outstanding and he was a large part of it.

Barbashev was a factor and is worth every penny on this next deal.

Why It Benefits The Team

The Ivan Barbashev contract makes sense for the team. Adding necessary muscle and physicality is a great element to have in your lineup. But the biggest kicker is the fact that he can produce. Being a power forward is effective in this era of hockey and Barbashev utilizes it perfectly. He is a great player to have as depth and for Vegas who was huge during their cup run, he is the perfect player to keep.

Main Photo: Stephen R.
