{"id":138020,"date":"2023-06-06T15:10:15","date_gmt":"2023-06-06T19:10:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/?p=138020"},"modified":"2023-06-06T15:10:15","modified_gmt":"2023-06-06T19:10:15","slug":"report-blue-jackets-get-ivan-provorov-in-three-way-trade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2023\/06\/06\/report-blue-jackets-get-ivan-provorov-in-three-way-trade\/","title":{"rendered":"Report: Blue Jackets Get Ivan Provorov In Three Way Trade"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the first trades of the offseason has happened, and it is a big one.<\/p>\n<p>The Los Angeles Kings, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Philadelphia Flyers have agreed to a three-way trade which involves <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/p\/peterca01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-06-06_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Calvin Petersen<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/w\/walkese01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-06-06_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sean Walker<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/p\/provoiv01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-06-06_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ivan Provorov<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Provorov Traded To Columbus<\/h2>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">On a plane, so not sure if exact details\u2026but a three-way deal with Columbus, Philadelphia and LA is being worked on\u2026.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Elliotte Friedman (@FriedgeHNIC) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FriedgeHNIC\/status\/1666137951200514048?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">June 6, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The full trade is a bit complicated; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/p\/provoiv01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-06-06_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ivan Provorov<\/a> has been sent to the Blue Jackets, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/w\/walkese01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-06-06_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sean Walker<\/a>, Cal Petersen, and a 2023 first-round pick going to Philadelphia.<\/p>\n<p>Los Angeles is retaining 30% of Provorov&#8217;s deal, which gives them more cap space heading into free agency.<\/p>\n<p>Provorov had an average season for his standards, notching 6 goals, 21 assists for 27 points in 82 games. He was drafted 7th overall by the Flyers in 2015 after putting up 73 points with the Brandon Wheat Kings.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2019\/09\/12\/ivan-provorov-signs\/\" target=\"_self\">Provorov also has a massive cap hit<\/a>, making $6.75 million until the 2024-2025 season.<\/p>\n<h3>Petersen, Walker shipped to Philadelphia<\/h3>\n<p>Cal Peterson has been traded to the Flyers along with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/w\/walkese01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-06-06_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sean Walker<\/a>, prospect Hele Grans, and a second-round pick.<\/p>\n<p>Petersen put up a 3.75 GAA and a .868 SV% <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2022\/11\/30\/cal-petersen-put-on-waivers\/\" target=\"_self\">and was sent to the AHL<\/a>, where he put up a more respectable 2.88 GAA and a .904 SV%.<\/p>\n<p>Walker has not returned to the production level that he had in 2019-2020, putting up 13 points in 70 games. Both Walker and Petersen have multi-year extensions that are about to kick in.<\/p>\n<p>This move also allows the Kings to re-sign <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/gavrivl01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-06-06_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Vladislav Gavrikov<\/a>, who the Kings have been rumoured to be extending.<\/p>\n<h3>What This Means<\/h3>\n<p>with the Kings needing cap space, and the Flyers moving Gavrikov&#8217;s cap hit, this leaves more questions than answers.<\/p>\n<p>One of those questions is regarding Flyers star goaltender <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/hartca01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-06-06_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Carter Hart<\/a>. With the Flyers getting Petersen in the deal, Hart&#8217;s future is now in question. Hart did not have a good season by far, and fans have become unhappy with him as the team looks to contend.<\/p>\n<p>Adding Walker gets them a Provorov-calibre player, for a cheaper price.<\/p>\n<p>For now, it seems to be a stepping stone for more transactions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of the first trades of the offseason has happened, and it is a big one.
