It’s time for another edition of NHL rumours. There are still a few teams looking for a head coach. The New York Rangers fired Gerard Gallant<\/a>, but are still in the market for a new bench boss. Names like<\/a> Peter Laviolette<\/a> and John Hynes<\/a> have been linked to the job. However, a new name could emerge as a candidate for the Blueshirts news coach. Could Patrick Roy<\/a> be a name in the New York Rangers coach search? This edition of NHL rumours looks at that question.<\/p>\n

Patrick Roy in New York Rangers Coach Search?<\/h3>\n

Rumour: Larry Brooks of The New York Post speculated<\/a> on if the former Hall of Fame goalie could be in the mix for the vacant position. Roy just guided the Quebec Remparts to the Memorial Cup title<\/a> in convincing fashion. The former Montreal Canadiens and Colorado Avalanche netminder has done well in the QMJHL. Roy said that he would like to get back into an NHL coaching post sometime.<\/p>\n

One thing Roy has going for him is his ability to handle younger players.The Rangers do have some talented players like Alexis Lafreniere<\/a> and Kaapo Kakko<\/a>. However, those two have had their struggles in the league. Roy could be the player unlocks the duos potential and gives them a chance to shine.<\/p>\n

Latest in New York Rangers Coach Search<\/h3>\n

Brooks reported that Rangers general manager Chris Drury<\/a> has not talked to Roy. However, this could be due to Quebec’s Memorial Cup run. Roy’s three-year tenure in Colorado ended after clashes with then GM Joe Sakic<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The hiring of the mercurial goalie could either go really well or be a disaster. Hiring Laviolette seems like the safe choice, but Roy could be what the franchise needs. He’s a big personality, but has installed structure to the Remparts. The Rangers seemed to struggle on the forecheck, but Roy’s style wants pressure and his teams play with intensity.<\/p>\n
