Many team’s have plenty off buzz surrounding them. The Calgary Flames have a new voice at general manager. Speaking of general managers, the Toronto Maple Leafs have parted ways with General Manager Kyle Dubas. However, there is one team swirling around the former Toronto boss.

Kyle Dubas Could Still Remain In The East

Rumour: Darren Dreger talks about Dubas and Pittsburgh

Dreger on Dubas/Pens: "There's been a lot of speculation over the last number of days about the possibility of Pittsburgh in some capacity, if not GM maybe president. The Fenway Group is looking for someone young, someone aggressive who has some experience".

— NHL Watcher (@NHL_Watcher) May 22, 2023

One team got the fireworks started early this offseason and that was the Pittsburgh Penguins. They went ahead and dismissed their entire front office. A disappointing season which led to missing the playoffs led to that very dismissal. With a core in place and wanting to win now while they can, a new voice is needed for the job. Enter general manager Kyle Dubas. As mentioned above, Fenway Sports Group wants someone young, aggressive, and experienced. Dubas checks off every box. The fit and need is there. Does it make sense?

Is The Fit There?

General Manager Kyle Dubas would be a fit for the job. Being 37 years of age, Dubas fits the bill of young. He is no stranger to being aggressive as evidenced by the trade deadline this past season to bolster the club further. His experience comes in as well. He has been with Toronto for nine seasons in total. Dubas was the assistant general manager in 2014 and got promoted in 2018. During his tenure as manager, the team made the playoffs every season. However, the club got out if the first round just once. But Dubas showed he can help build a quality team that is capable of contending.

Pittsburgh is a team that is capable of winning now. They are led by bench boss Mike Sullivan and have a talented core. Veterans Sidney Crosby, Kris Letang, and Evgeni Malkin are still thriving and the window to win is now while they are able. Enter a fresh young mind like Dubas and another parade could be roaring through the streets of Pittsburgh.

Main Photo: Tom Szczerbowski-USA TODAY Sports

The Stanley Cup playoffs may still be going on, but the news keeps flowing.
