The Vancouver Canucks have announced the re-signing of forward Reid Boucher<\/strong><\/a>. Boucher, 23, was set to head to arbitration, but avoided so in signing a one-year deal worth $687,500. The deal is one-way, meaning he will make the same amount whether he is in the NHL, or is sent down to the AHL.<\/p>\n

Vancouver Canucks Re-Sign Reid Boucher<\/h3>\n

The Canucks originally acquired Boucher off of waivers in early January. Earlier in the season, Boucher was waived by the New Jersey Devils, was claimed and re-waived by the Nashville Predators, and was subsequently claimed and waived yet again by the Devils. On the season, the 5’10”, 195-pound winger put up ten points in 39 games, a 21-point pace. As a member of the Canucks, Boucher scored five goals and two assists, for seven points, in 27 contests (a 15-goal, 21-point pace). He scored one goal in Nashville (in three games), while managing two assists in New Jersey (in nine games). Over the course of his entire career, Boucher has scored 17 goals and 37 points in 112 games.<\/p>\n

In 2012-13, Boucher broke\u00a0Steven Stamkos<\/strong><\/a>‘ single-season goal record for the OHL’s Sarnia Sting with 62 (in 68 contests). Selected in the fourth round (99th overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft by the Devils, he has yet to replicate that same success at the professional level, though he had a respectable 110 points in 169 AHL contests (with the Albany Devils).<\/p>\n

Boucher has demonstrated a knack for getting pucks on net, as well as a hard, accurate shot. While he wasn’t given ample opportunity under Willie Desjardins<\/strong><\/a> towards the end of the 2016-17 season, it’s possible he gets the chance to produce under new head coach Travis Green<\/strong><\/a>. Boucher’s deal mirrors that of teammate Michael Chaput<\/strong><\/a>, who put up career highs in games played (68), goals (four), assists (five) and points (nine) with the Canucks last season. With the re-signing of Boucher, the Canucks now have 44 of 50 contract slots filled for the 2017-18 season.<\/p>\n
