The Flyers came to terms on a deal with him for four years and an average annual value of $2.7 million per season. This should prove to be a solid deal for both sides.

Philadelphia Flyers Announce Extension For Defenceman

Throughout his career, Seeler has only now started to find his stride at the NHL level. The Minnesota native was taken in the fifth round of the 2011 draft by his local Minnesota Wild. Since making his debut in 2017, Seeler has 206 career NHL games under his belt. Furthermore, this season he has one goal, and 11 assists, for 12 points in 63 games played. Of all those stats, only the GP is not a career-high, as he played 71 in 2018-19 with the Wild.

How This Seeler Extension Impacts The Flyers

This Seeler extension makes sense for the Flyers. The Flyers have been the surprise team of the season. John Tortorella has gotten this team to compete hard and play on any given night. The return of Sean Couturier has helped and Travis Konecny has emerged as a solid top six winger. Despite losing Carter Hart due to the Team Canada scandal, they’ve gotten stable goaltending. Furthermore, the blue line is solidified thanks to the likes of Nick Seeler.

While the Flyers are in playoff position, they are still building towards the future. Daniel Briere has been busy this deadline, as he parted ways with Sean Walker. Part of the Ivan Provorov trade, Briere continues to reap the benefits of any trade. Briere has also locked in pieces for the foreseeable future and that includes Seeler. The present of Flyers hockey is great but the future is going to be even greater. This is a great deal for both sides, as the Flyers enter the new era of hockey.

Main Photo: Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Flyers have a contract extension in place for physical defenceman Nick Seeler.
