Last season, as a 22-year-old, Kastelic had an average of 9:11 per game, not bad for a fourth-liner. He put up two goals and two assists for four points in just 16 contests.

Since beginning his professional career in 2020-21, he has also played 95 games with the Senators AHL team, the Belleville Senators. He had a 42.0 Corsi-for percentage last year.

So far, throughout Kastelic’s career, he has shown his worth as a fourth-line centre. He has a combined 62.2 faceoff win percentage in his NHL career, and that is all the while starting nearly 80 percent of his shifts in the defensive zone.

The Senators drafted Kastelic 125th overall in the fifth round of the 2019 NHL Draft. Since that time he has used his toughness to present himself as a difficult matchup for fellow fourth-liners. He still has lots of potential, having only suited up for 22 games at the NHL level to this point.

What this Means for the Senators

Kastelic is a great role player. His toughness in the bottom of the forward group, really allows him to help support the skilled forwards throughout the long grind of the season.

He is also an excellent faceoff man, who is getting more and more penalty-kill opportunities from his coach D.J. Smith. His defensive prowess will go a long way, especially in supporting the team’s effort with the loss of Josh Norris long-term.

Main Photo:
Embed from Getty Images

Mark Kastelic signs an extension with the Ottawa Senators on a two-year deal, worth an AAV value of $835,000.
