(*Pausing to catch my breath after listing all 10 squads Brassard suited up for*.) Columbus drafted him back in 2006 with their first round, sixth overall selection. In the years since he amassed 202 goals and 320 assists for 522 career points in 951 games.

Last season Brassard bounced between the Flyers and Oilers, combining for eight goals and 11 assists in total for 19 points. In the prime of his career, Brassard scored in the high-teens and low twenties, racking up 40-60 points a year. Now in his mid-30’s, that production sits in the 20-30 point range at best. The centreman also added 16 minutes in penalties last year. His possession numbers remain on the positive side though, at a respectable 51.7 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of 2.0.

What This Means for the Future

Brassard spent five and a half years with Columbus to start his career, and then three and a half with the Rangers. From the 2016-17 season and onwards, though, he has played less than two full years in any one city. That comes out to eight different franchises over the last six NHL seasons. At least in Ottawa, he returns to a city he spent a year-and-a-half in. But even that is a short stint in the eyes of an average NHL’er.

The Sens made a ton of moves this past offseason, to bolster their lineup around their developing young core. Brady Tkachuk, Joshua Norris, Drake Batherson, Mathieu Joseph, Tim Stutzle, Alex DeBrincat, Shane Pinto and Alex Formenton are all 25 or younger. Now with Derick Brassard signed and added to the mix, and the Senators host a very competitive forward group.

This team wants to make noise, and make it now.
