The contract extension runs for 5 years at $3 million AAV per year. Roy’s new contract should light a fire with him coming off a career year in the 2021-22 season. There would be no doubt the Golden Knights will look for Roy to continue his current forward progression.

✍️ Nicolas Roy has signed a five year contract with the Golden Knights!!!!! #VegasBorn

👑👑👑👑👑https://t.co/0FKVdgE0DJ

— Vegas Golden Knights (@GoldenKnights) August 8, 2022

Nicolas Roy Extension Signed

The 25 year old was originally drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes in the fourth round of the 2015 NHL Draft. He was traded to Las Vegas from Carolina in June of 2019.

Roy has been with the Golden Knights since the 2019-20 season and has been able to show glimpses of progress since. In his first season with the Golden Knights, he tallied 10 points in 28 games. The following year, he was able to get more games played under his belt with production remaining the same. His 2020-21 season yielded 15 points in 50 total games. This past season proved to be Roy’s breakout season with the Golden Knights. The Quebec native boasted 15 goals, 24 assists and 39 total points in his nearly full season with 78 games played. This production came mostly from the wing as the Golden Knights suffered from injuries this past season.

Looking Ahead

Roy was one of the few bright spots in the Golden Knights less-than-ideal 2021-2022 season. He currently remains the team’s third line centre behind Jack Eichel and William Karlsson. There is also the possibility of Roy getting some work in on the wing as he did this past season. As the Golden Knights face the cap, this signing may prove to be a breath of fresh air. However, this is dependent on whether or not he is able to maintain this solid productivity through his next five years with the team. Time will tell whether or not the term pans out for the Golden Knights.

Golden Knights re-up Nicolas Roy on 5-year pact https://t.co/s4ADWdtpvu pic.twitter.com/cjNEx05mqi

— theScore NHL (@theScoreNHL) August 8, 2022

This afternoon, the Vegas Golden Knights announced they have re-signed forward Nicolas Roy.
