He has a career record of 23 wins, 33 losses, and 14 overtime losses in 77 games played. His career goals-against-average is 3.11 and his save percentage is .906%. He was originally drafted in the third round, 84th overall of the 2010 NHL draft by the Devils. Wedgewood bounced around between the Coyotes and the Devils for several years. This past season, he was traded at the deadline from Arizona to Dallas. He was moved in exchange for a conditional fourth-round pick. The conditions were, that if the Stars made the playoffs, the pick would then become a third-round pick. The Stars ultimately did make the playoffs.

What He Brings to the Table

The 29-year-old goaltender has the potential to be a solid backup goalie. During his time with Arizona and New Jersey, neither team made the playoffs. Being on lower-caliber teams, it seemed as though he didn’t have much help from his defence. However, this was beneficial for Wedgewood once he made his move to Dallas. The Stars are a team known for giving up lots of shots on goal. In seven games started, Wedgewood faced an average of nearly 40 shots-on-goal per game. During the games, he was facing high shot volumes, but he kept his composure and never wavered.

As far as his goaltending skills, Wedgewood has good reflexes and can cover a lot of net. He has a decent glove hand and tracks the puck well. Additionally, he is capable of shutting down elite players. Though he does have consistency issues, finding a team with solid defence would help this issue. He will be a great backup goalie on a budget for the right team.

Stars sign Scott Wedgewood to 2-year extension https://t.co/1ulGeM1ob2 pic.twitter.com/d5aMrWhQjo

— theScore NHL (@theScoreNHL) June 30, 2022

The Dallas Stars signed free agent goaltender, Scott Wedgewood, to a two-year contract worth $2 million, or $1 million per season.
