Oettinger, 23, was the starter for the Stars last season and led the team to the playoffs.

He earned the starting role after Braden Holtby went down with an injury, but quickly proved himself to be the number one option over Scott Wedgewood.

Oettinger has played for Dallas for the entirety of his pro career, although he started in the NCAA before making the jump to professional hockey.

Oettinger helped the Stars reach the playoffs, although the team was bounced in the first round by the Calgary Flames.

What This Means

For Oettinger, this is a well-deserved payday. He has been a really solid starter for Dallas and was the main reason the Stars stretched the first-round series against the Flames to 7 games. He should be able to replicate the season he had previously, although he may take a step back considering this past season was a contract year.

Oettinger will be the starter going forward with the Stars, and will add a significant amount of goaltending depth. He should be secure with the job considering his performance from last season.

Currently, he is 23, so he should be a starter for a long time. He also isn’t in his prime yet, so he is only going to get better as the years go by.

With Oettinger and the Stars suffering a heartbreaking defeat in game 7 last year, he should have more motivation than ever to take the team deep into the playoffs and continue his hot streak. All Stars fans can breathe a sigh of relief when Jake Oettinger re-signs his contract.

Main Photo:

Embed from Getty Images

The Dallas Stars have re-signed goaltender Jake Oettinger to a three-year $12 million deal.
