Brett has spent his entire career with the Devils and will remain part of the youthful core they already have in place. He has played 307 career games, all with the Devils and has scored a total of 70 goals, 133 assists, and a total of 203 points.

Bratt had a career year for himself. He established himself not only as a top-six forward for the team but also one of the top point producers on the team. According to Stat Muse, in 76 games played in the 2021-2022 season, Bratt scored 26 goals, 47 assists, and a total of 73 points, which was good for the team lead. 18 of his points came with the man advantage. He was productive in all areas for the Devils and was a significant part of their offensive attack. Before his breakout year, he was averaging 30 points a year. This is a massive improvement for the young forward.

One of the biggest standouts of his season was Bratt’s point averages. He was a point per game player averaging 1.04 points per game. His point totals per 60 minutes on average were 3.31 which ranked second on the team behind superstar center Jack Hughes. He had the best possession numbers on the team, averaging a Corsi For percentage at 59%, which are solid numbers to have and that was the best on the team, per Money Puck.

What This Means For The Devils

The Devils are one of the youngest teams in the league. The team boasts a young 1-2 punch down the middle with captain Nico Hischier and superstar Jack Hughes. This past offseason, the Devils aimed big and signed number one defencemen Dougie Hamilton. The youth movement did not stop as Dawson Mercer emerged on the scene and finished top five in points on the team.

The Devils have shaped a core, and now they keep Bratt into that mix. Hughes and Bratt formed chemistry and were an offensive dynamo for the Devils. This deal gives the team security within their top six. Bratt is now a member of the core they have formed. This long-term deal keeps one of their young pieces in town and keeps the firepower going up front.

Jack Hughes is a happy man and so is the fan base. Huge deal for the Devils and for Tom Fitzgerald to get done.

🚨SIGNING UPDATE🚨: #NJDevils sign forward Jesper Bratt to a one-year, $5.45 million contract, avoiding salary arbitration…

Follow every deal in our Signing Tracker – https://t.co/9G8sMT5oB0#TSNHockey pic.twitter.com/rWdpeo6WWh

— TSN Hockey (@TSNHockey) August 3, 2022

The New Jersey Devils have signed Jesper Bratt to an extension.
