This is the first time since 1985 that the team hosting the draft picks first. The Toronto Maple Leafs selected <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/clarkwe01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wendel Clark<\/a> in 1985. This season, Wright scored 32 goals, and 62 assists for 94 points in 63 games. Kerr writes that Wright is a complete centreman that can play in all situations and stylistically compares to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/bergepa01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Patrice Bergeron<\/a>. Kerr calls him, &#8220;a franchise leading centre.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Cooley has scored 27 goals and 48 assists for 75 points in 51 games for the USNTDP. Kerr writes that he has the potential to be a first-line complete centre. Stylistically, he compares to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/p\/pointbr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brayden Point<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Here is the draft order among the non-playoff teams<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Montreal Canadiens<\/li>\n<li>New Jersey Devils<\/li>\n<li>Arizona Coyotes<\/li>\n<li>Seattle Kraken<\/li>\n<li>Philadelphia Flyers<\/li>\n<li>Columbus Blue Jackets (from the Chicago Blackhawks)<\/li>\n<li>Ottawa Senators<\/li>\n<li>Detroit Red Wings<\/li>\n<li>Buffalo Sabres<\/li>\n<li>Anaheim Ducks<\/li>\n<li>San Jose Sharks<\/li>\n<li>Columbus Blue Jackets<\/li>\n<li>New York Islanders<\/li>\n<li>Winnipeg Jets<\/li>\n<li>Vancouver Canucks<\/li>\n<li>Buffalo Sabres (from the Vegas Golden Knights)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>What This Means for the Future<\/h3>\n<p>Montreal has the potential to add a complete top centre to complement <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/suzukni01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nick Suzuki<\/a> down the middle for years to come. The New Jersey Devils have two young top two centremen in\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=hugheja03,hugheja02&amp;search=Jack+Hughes&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jack Hughes<\/a> and\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/hischni01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nico Hischier<\/a>.
