The deal is for the next two years with an annual average of $1.475 million per season which works out to $2,950,000 million. That’s not a bad signing by any means for the Sabres, Larsson still has a ton of upside and is expected to play a much bigger role next season.

https://twitter.com/SabresNetwork/status/883800903932821505

The former 56th overall pick by the Minnesota Wild in the second round of 2010, Larsson has been in the NHL since 2012-13. However, his first year in the pros didn’t go so well with the Wild as he only appeared in one game while splitting the rest of that season with the Houston Aeros and the Rochester Americans, after he was traded, in the AHL. He was subsequently dealt that season to the Sabres organization which also brought in Matt Hackett, a 2013 first round pick which turned into Nikita Zadorov who is now gone, and a 2014 second round pick in exchange for Jason Pominville and a 2014 fourth round pick.

But back to Larsson himself, in 164 career AHL games Larsson has managed 46 goals and 76 assists for 122 points. And his NHL numbers aren’t that bad either with 22 goals and 26 assists for 48 points in 178 games.

Now that the team has brought in Benoit Pouliot and Jason Pominville plus Alexander Nylander ready to take the next step, Larsson could potentially have some solid wingers to play along with. But the question that remains on everyone’s mind is, will he stay with the Sabres all season? The answer is very likely a yes, and even if he doesn’t land a center position due to the acquisition of Jacob Josefson, he does have the durability to play on the wings as well.

Main Photo:

Embed from Getty Images

The Buffalo Sabres have re-signed forward Johan Larsson to a new two-year deal sunday worth $2.95 million.
