The San Jose Sharks<\/a> forward Evander Kane<\/a> is once again in the headlines, and for all the wrong reasons. Kane was put on unconditional waivers today for the purpose of terminating his contract, per Elliotte Friedman.<\/p>\n

Evander Kane no Longer a San Jose Shark<\/h2>\n

Kane, who was assigned to the Sharks AHL affiliate<\/a> this year is about to find himself no longer a part of the organization. According to multiple sources, Kane knowingly travelled with the San Jose Barracuda into Vancouver, Canada, while being positive for COVID. This violates AHL’s COVID protocol, thus allowing the organization to terminate Kane’s deal.<\/p>\n

This is the second time this season that Kane has been penalized for COVID protocols. Prior to the start of the season, he misled many about his vaccination status. On top of that, he also attempted to present the NHL and San Jose with a fake vaccination card<\/a>. The latter incident resulted in Kane being suspended for 21 games<\/a> for violating the NHL’s COVID protocol.<\/p>\n

San Jose Looking To Move On<\/h3>\n

It has become clear that San Jose was willing to move on without Kane prior to the season, even despite him leading the Sharks in both goals and points in 2020-21. And, with this most recent issue he has found himself in, it seems that Kane is going to find himself out of a deal and very likely out of hockey in North America.<\/p>\n

Kane’s agent Dan Milstein went to Twitter to inform his client will be filing a grievance to avoid the contract termination if he clears waivers. The NHLPA also released a brief statement saying grievance is to be filled. Kane’s contract termination will process on Sunday, January 9th at 2 PM EST. The contract termination will see the remaining three and a half years and approximately $24 million voided.<\/p>\n
