With the NHL season underway, that means the Last Word on Hockey Show is back again on the\u00a0MAD Radio Network<\/a>. \u00a0Your host\u00a0Jim Biringer from lastwordonhockey.com<\/a> was back alongside Coach Jay and Carter Bentivenga of Inside the Rink<\/a> as Marc Weiss was on assignment. The boys dive into the Winnipeg Jets and Paul Maurice’s resignation. In addition, they look into the Vancouver Canucks, Anaheim Ducks, NHL\/COVID Situation, and much more.<\/p>\n

The Last Word on Hockey Show: Winnipeg Jets, Vancouver Canucks, NHL COVID<\/h2>\n

Winnipeg Jets<\/h3>\n

Jim welcomes everyone to show as the boys dive into the Paul Maurice resignation in Winnipeg<\/a>. As Jim notes it was a very shocking way to start a Friday morning. But as Carter notes, it appeared Maurice knew when it was time to step aside as this had been in the works for some time now. Coach Jay notes sometimes the voice in the room wears off and Jim notes that there are only some many times you can ignite the flame with the players. Dave Lowry<\/a> takes over on an interim basis. But the boys all can agree that Maurice handled the press conference with pure class. The Jets are still in good hands.<\/p>\n

Vancouver Canucks<\/h3>\n

Jim then transitions the show to talk about what Bruce Boudreau<\/a> has done with the Canucks. As Carter notes the Canucks are a different team under Boudreau than they were under Travis Green<\/a>. As Jay notes something about a different voice in the room. And his boy Thatcher Demko<\/a> remains on fire for the Canucks. Jim mentions this is not the first time we have seen this with Boudreau just look at the Washington Capitals, Anaheim Ducks, and Minnesota Wild. All the top players performed when he was coaching and the same is happening in Vancouver with Elias Pettersson<\/a>, Brock Boeser<\/a>, Bo Horvat<\/a>, J.T. Miller<\/a>, and Quinn Hughes<\/a><\/p>\n

NHL\/COVID Situation<\/h3>\n

The boys then talk about a sensitive subject when it comes to the NHL and its COVID situation. As Jim mentions the Calgary Flames<\/a>, Colorado Avalanche<\/a>, and Florida Panthers<\/a> were postponed through the Christmas break<\/a>. In addition, as the show went off the air the Boston Bruins<\/a> and Nashville Predators<\/a> have been postponed through the Christmas break<\/a>. It is a fluid situation that is always changing. Games continue to get postponed and frustration is growing amongst players. Everyone agrees the Olympics is a long shot now and the NHL needs to figure out how to handle the salary cap and taxi squads going forward. Just something to keep an eye on going forward.<\/p>\n

The boys go around the league looking at the milestones of Alex Ovechkin<\/a> and Marc-Andre Fleury<\/a>, plus look at the Anaheim Ducks<\/a> and so much more.<\/p>\n
