Drafted 16th overall in the first round of the 2013 NHL Draft by the Buffalo Sabres, the 22-year-old Russian has spent parts of four years with the Buffalo Sabres and the Colorado Avalanche.

Zadorov joined the entire Avalanche team last year on the rougher side of the league. He earned 10 points in 56 games and was a -20. Spending the majority of his NHL career with the Buffalo Sabres, Zadorov was traded in June 2016. The trade included Mikhail Grigorenko, J.T. O’Reilly remains in Buffalo, and has become a standout on the Sabres.

At 6’5″ and 235 pounds, Zadorov has used his physicality to create a shut-down style of defensive play. Next year the Avalanche look to erase an abysmal season and Zadorov’s contributions will be essential for a stronger blue line.

Zadorov’s best NHL year came in 2014-15 with three goals and 12 assists in 60 games, leading the blue line in plus-minus at -10 in what was a terrible season for the Sabres. He has played in parts of four NHL seasons, scoring four goals and 28 points in 145 career games. He also has 140 career penalty minutes.

The 24-year-old Moscow, Russia native came to North America and played his junior hockey with the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League. He was the Sabres first round choice, 16th overall, at the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

Main Photo:

Embed from Getty Images

RALEIGH, NC – FEBRUARY 17: Colorado Avalanche Defenceman Nikita Zadorov (16) passes the puck up ice in a regular season NHL game between the Colorado Avalanche and the Carolina Hurricanes at the PNC Arena on February 17, 2017.
