It was announced Tuesday evening that Dallas Stars<\/strong> and Team Canada<\/strong> forward Tyler Seguin<\/a><\/strong> would be missing the approaching World Cup of Hockey<\/strong> with a knee injury. The injury was suffered in pre-tournament competition. \u00a0It has also been said however, that the knee injury is not considered serious and that Seguin will only need about seven to ten days of recovery.<\/p>\n

Tyler Seguin to miss World Cup of Hockey<\/h3>\n

The injury occured Saturday in Team Canada’s pre-tournament game against Team USA<\/strong> when Seguin was clipped by Winnipeg Jets<\/strong> defenseman Dustin Byfuglien<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Dallas Stars front office released a statement regarding Seguin’s injury. \u00a0“We are aware of the injury Tyler suffered while competing with Team Canada at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.” Stars General Manager Jim Nill<\/a><\/strong> said. “We recognize the constraints of the tournament and understand Team Canada’s decision given the circumstances. \u00a0Tyler will be returning to Dallas in the coming days and we will evaluate him fully at that point” \u00a0Seguin had this to say, “I’m disappointed that I can’t represent Team Canada at the World Cup of Hockey. \u00a0Anytime your country calls, it’s a great honor and is something every kid from Canada dreams about getting the chance to do. \u00a0While I’m upset that I don’t get the opportunity to play, I understand the situation Team Canada is in with a short tournament. \u00a0I wish all the best for that team and the good news is that I will get to be with my Stars teammates from day one. \u00a0We’re excited to get the season going, and we can’t wait to get to Cedar Park and get to work.” Via @StarsInsideEdge on Twitter<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Ryan O’Reilly In As Replacement<\/h3>\n

With the tournament quickly approaching, Team Canada has wasted no time in naming a\u00a0replacement. Canada will add\u00a0Buffalo Sabres<\/strong> forward Ryan O’Reilly<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>to the roster.<\/p>\n

O’Reilly was the Sabres top point scorer last season.\u00a0He\u00a0scored\u00a021 goals and 39 assists for 60 points in 71 games. He was also a big part of Team Canada’s gold medal winning team at the 2016 World Championships. O’Reilly is versatile, as he can play both centre and wing. He can be used in a two-way role, and is able to check top lines.<\/p>\n

Team Canada will square off against Team Russia<\/strong>\u00a0on Thursday in another pre-tournament game.<\/p>\n
