Cossa put up ridiculous numbers, including a 17-1-1 record, a .941 save percentage, and a 1.57 GAA. Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman traded up in the draft to net Cossa, and it&#8217;s clear why. His skill and ability are similar to one of Yzerman&#8217;s old draft picks &#8212; Ben Bishop. He&#8217;s a tall, towering goaltender with a commanding presence between the pipes. This is the exact kind of player Yzerman needed to cement the team&#8217;s goaltending core.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s very little to dislike about this signing. This deal gives Cossa incentive to smooth out the rough patches in his game while the Red Wings develop into a true contender. By the time Cossa is ready to make the NHL push, the team will be ready for their next big step. Cossa&#8217;s development is imperative to the team&#8217;s success. It&#8217;s a good thing he <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2021\/05\/23\/sebastian-cossa-scouting-report\/\" target=\"_self\">stays calm under pressure<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>What This Means for the Team<\/h3>\n<p>Cossa is entering a very good situation in Detroit. He&#8217;ll need a few years to develop. While he waits, the Red Wings can rely on Alex Nedeljkovic. Cossa will be entering the NHL right around the tail end of Nedeljkovic&#8217;s contract. Whether he re-signs or not remains to be seen; having said that, this goaltending tandem has the potential to be among the deadliest in the NHL. There&#8217;s a lot to love when it comes to a goaltender like Cossa.
