As soon as the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/lightning\/\" target=\"_self\">Tampa Bay Lightning<\/a> began their celebration, so too did the offseason moves. A flat salary cap made for some interesting moves for some teams. While we won\u2019t fully know the impact these moves will have on their respective teams, a handful\u2019s moves are worth a head-scratching. These teams have had some of the most confusing NHL offseasons in recent years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The basis for this piece revolves around teams that made moves that raised an eyebrow or made you say \u201chuh?\u201d when the news broke. Teams that are evidently in a rebuild (Buffalo, Detroit, Ottawa) are not included on this list.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Top Four Most Confusing NHL Offseasons<\/h2>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Honourable Mentions<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Before getting into the top four, two teams made some confusing moves but have a little higher potential to work out.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Carolina Hurricanes<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/a\/anderfr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Frederik Andersen<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/raantan01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Antti Raanta<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/bearet01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ethan Bear<\/a>, Ian Cole, Tony DeAngelo and Derek Stepan have all joined the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/hurricanes\/\" target=\"_self\">Carolina Hurricanes<\/a> this offseason. The team lost <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/f\/foegewa01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Warren Foegele<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/hamildo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dougie Hamilton<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/n\/nedelal01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alex Nedeljkovic<\/a>, Brock McGinn, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/beanja01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jake Bean<\/a> and James Reimer. Perhaps the most confusing move of the offseason was the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2021\/07\/22\/alex-nedeljkovic-traded-to-detroit-from-carolina\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">trading of Nedeljkovic<\/a> for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/bernijo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jonathan Bernier<\/a>, who Carolina didn\u2019t even sign. This was after the 23-year-old netminder became the team\u2019s starting goaltender for the playoffs. The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2021\/07\/27\/carolina-hurricanes-sign-tony-deangelo\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">addition of DeAngelo<\/a> is worth attention as he was bought out by the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/rangers\/\" target=\"_self\">New York Rangers<\/a> for <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2021\/07\/23\/report-new-york-rangers-buyout-tony-deangelo\/\" target=\"_self\">off-ice issues<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The reason the Hurricanes aren\u2019t in the top four of this list is that they were able to keep head coach Rod Brind\u2019Amour. If anyone is going to keep Carolina among the league\u2019s top teams as they have been, it\u2019s Rod the Bod.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Philadelphia Flyers<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/flyers\/\" target=\"_self\">Philadelphia Flyers<\/a> were among the busiest teams this offseason. General manager Chuck Fletcher virtually gave the team a facelift. The team was busy on the trade front, shipping off mainstays <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/gostish01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Shayne Gostisbehere<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/v\/voracja01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jakub Voracek<\/a>. They also dealt <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/p\/patrino01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nolan Patrick<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/myersph01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Philippe Myers<\/a>, and Robert Hagg. In return, the Flyers received <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/a\/atkinca01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cam Atkinson<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/ristora01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rasmus Ristolainen<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/e\/ellisry01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ryan Ellis<\/a>. They also signed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/j\/jonesma02.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Martin Jones<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/y\/yandlke01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Keith Yandle<\/a> and Nate Thompson.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Flyers made a lot of moves but it\u2019s tough to say if the team got better. They essentially swapped out pieces on what was already a pretty solid core. However, the team did <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2021\/08\/09\/carter-hart-re-signed-by-philadelphia-flyers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">re-sign<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/hartca01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Carter Hart<\/a> and got him a backup to challenge for the number one spot. The Flyers have a good enough roster that could contend this season, which is why they&#8217;re not among the most confusing NHL offseasons this year. But anything less than success would make this offseason look silly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Now, to the top four teams with the most confusing offseasons.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">#4 Pittsburgh Penguins<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/penguins\/\" target=\"_self\">Pittsburgh Penguins<\/a> are on this list because they have been awfully quiet this offseason. They signed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/mcginbr01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brock McGinn<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/heineda01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Danton Heinen<\/a> as depth forwards but that was about it. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Penguins made no changes to their goaltending situation which cost them their series against the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/islanders\/\" target=\"_self\">New York Islanders<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yes, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/crosbsi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sidney Crosby<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/malkiev01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Evgeni Malkin<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/letankr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kris Letang<\/a> are more than enough to drag Pittsburgh into the playoffs. But when they get there, they\u2019ll likely suffer the same fate as they did in 2020-21. The Penguins&#8217; core only has a couple of good years left in them and more should have been done to ensure another Stanley Cup run.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">#3 Chicago Blackhawks<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Blackhawks don\u2019t seem to know whether they are rebuilding or ready to win. The team added <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/j\/jonesse01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Seth Jones<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/j\/johnsty01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tyler Johnson<\/a>, Jake McCabe, Caleb Jones, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/f\/fleurma01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Marc-Andre Fleury<\/a> during the offseason. They lost <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/k\/keithdu01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Duncan Keith<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/z\/zadorni01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nikita Zadorov<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/suterpi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pius Suter<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/boqviad01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Adam Boqvist<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Hawks <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2021\/07\/23\/seth-jones-traded-to-blackjawks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">caught one of the biggest offseason fish<\/a> in Seth Jones, giving up promising blueliner Boqvist in return. Fleury\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2021\/08\/01\/marc-andre-fleury-reporting-to-chicago-blackhawks\/\" target=\"_self\">initial hesitancy<\/a> when traded to the team, was confusing. And Tyler Johnson has seen a decline in play over the past couple of years as he enters his 30s.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Blackhawks got some notable names and will likely be more competitive next season than they were last year. But their moves, with the exception of Seth Jones, were a lot of flash without a lot of substance. Granted, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/k\/kanepa01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Patrick Kane<\/a> is still elite and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/d\/debrial01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alex DeBrincat<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/d\/dachki01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kirby Dach<\/a> continue to get better, so the Hawks could very well surprise next season.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">#2 New York Rangers<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The New York Rangers&#8217; confusing offseason began before the regular season even ended. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/w\/wilsoto01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tom Wilson<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2021\/05\/04\/new-york-rangers-artemi-panarin-injured\/\" target=\"_self\">incident<\/a> on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/p\/panarar01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Artemi Panarin<\/a> sent shockwaves through the organization, prompting some <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2021\/05\/05\/rangers-fire-jeff-gorton-president-john-davidson\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">front-office shuffling<\/a>. And it\u2019s pretty clear the team had a goal of getting tougher for times like the Wilson incident.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/reavery01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ryan Reaves<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/goodrba01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Barclay Goodrow<\/a>, Jarred Tinordi, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/blaissa01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sammy Blais<\/a>, and Patrik Nemeth will all join the Blue Shirts this season. The team lost <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/buchnpa01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pavel Buchnevich<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/blackco01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Colin Blackwell<\/a>, and Tony DeAngelo. The Rangers\u2019 offseason isn\u2019t confusing for the moves they did make, rather, for the moves they didn\u2019t. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/z\/zibanmi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mika Zibanejad<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/stromry01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ryan Strome<\/a> are both heading into the final season of their deals, set to become unrestricted free agents in 2022. If either of the two were part of the Rangers\u2019 long-term plan, they would have likely been offered extensions by now. As far as the most confusing NHL offseasons have gone, this one is pretty high up there. However, t<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">he team does have young players like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/lafreal01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alexis Lafreniere<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/k\/kakkoka01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kaapo Kakko<\/a>, Norris-winner <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/f\/foxad01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Adam Fox<\/a>, and re-signed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/chytifi01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Filip Chytil<\/a> for the next generation. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It seems like general manager <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/d\/drurych01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chris Drury<\/a> made moves in response to the Tom Wilson incident rather than making moves that improved the team. Granted, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/gallage01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gerard Gallant<\/a> is behind the bench as a new addition, but will likely be a tough season for the Rangers unless some of those young players step up in a big way. At least they have Ryan Reaves to fight Tom Wilson every time they play the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/capitals\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">Washington Capitals<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">#1 Vancouver Canucks<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/canucks\/\" target=\"_self\">Vancouver Canucks<\/a> want to win now, and that couldn\u2019t be more evident from their offseason moves. Just a year before the bulky contracts of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/holtbbr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Braden Holtby<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/e\/erikslo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Loui Eriksson<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/beaglja01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jay Beagle<\/a> were set to come off the books, the team traded them away. The Canucks also let <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/e\/edleral01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alex Edler<\/a> walk in free agency and traded away <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/schmina01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nate Schmidt<\/a>. Coming to Vancouver this season is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/e\/ekmanol01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Oliver Ekman-Larsson<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/garlaco01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Conor Garland<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/d\/dickija01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jason Dickinson<\/a>, Tucker Poolman, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/schenlu01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Luke Schenn<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/halakja01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jaroslav Halak<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">General manager <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/benniji01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jim Benning<\/a>\u2019s attitude this offseason may be driven by restricted free agent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/p\/petteel01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Elias Pettersson<\/a>\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsnet.ca\/nhl\/article\/report-canucks-pettersson-wants-play-team-thats-winning\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">comments<\/a> about wanting to win right now. Both Pettersson and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/hughequ01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Quinn Hughes<\/a> are in need of new contracts before the season starts.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vancouver could have easily made small tweaks to its roster this offseason, hope for another year like 2019-20 where they catch some magic and go to the playoffs. Then, next year, they would have a lot more cap space to make some more significant moves. Instead, the Canucks bowed to the pressure of their players and fans and made big moves before all of that.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A healthy Elias Petterson and revived Ekman-Larsson could be catalysts for a good Vancouver team. But if the Canucks see anything other than success from the moves they made this offseason, there could be some disgruntled superstars and surely, some disappointed fans.
