The Boston Bruins have agreed to trade goaltender Daniel Vladar<\/a> to the Calgary Flames. The return is a third-round pick in the 2022 NHL draft.<\/p>\n

Bruins Trade Vladar to Flames<\/h2>\n

Vladar has remained with the Boston Bruins and has only one NHL regular season under his belt. He put up a 2-2-1 career record in five appearances during the 2020-21 season. He started five games, through which he recorded a 3.40 goals-against average and .886 save percentage.<\/p>\n

However, prior to his regular-season debut, Vladar had played one game against the Tampa Bay Lightning<\/a> in the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs. After Jaroslav Halak<\/a> let in four goals, Vladar was called off the bench to finish the game. He ended with a .800 save percentage after giving up three additional goals.<\/p>\n

Vanecek was originally drafted by the Boston Bruins in the third round, 75th overall in the 2015 NHL draft.<\/p>\n

What This Means for the Future<\/h3>\n

In Vladar, the Flames get a relatively untested goaltender. He has played very few games at an NHL level, and the results were very mixed. On one hand, Vladar was excellent in his first two starts (both of which were wins), allowing a total of three goals for a .952 save percentage. On the flip side, though, he also let in eight goals in a loss to the Washington Capitals<\/a>. It will take many more games to figure out what kind of goaltender Vladar will ultimately be. Nevertheless, it’s a smart trade for the Flames. Vladar comes with a mere $750,000 cap hit, despite being a young netminder with NHL potential. With no other NHL netminders signed, they may be hoping to test him as a backup option for Jacob Markstrom<\/a>. Vladar will have an interesting future ahead of him as he tries to crack Calgary’s roster.<\/p>\n
