The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed free agents David Ka<\/span>mpf and Kurtis Gabriel. Former Chicago Blackhawks<\/a> centre Kampf earned a two-year contract worth $3 million, or $1.5 million per season. This contract carries him through the 2022-23 season.<\/span><\/p>\n

Maple Leafs Sign David Kampf, Kurtis Gabriel<\/strong><\/h2>\n

David Kampf has played his entire four year career with the Chicago Blackhawks. For the past four years, he<\/span>\u00a0put up 17 <\/span>goals and 41<\/span> assists for 58<\/span> career points in 235<\/span> career games. <\/span>Last season, Kampf scored one goal and 11 assists for 12 points in addition to 20 penalty minutes. His possession numbers were 41.4 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of -7.8. Kampf<\/span>\u00a0signed with the Chicago Blackhawks as an undrafted free agent in 2017.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kurtis Gabriel’s NHL career has also spanned four years. In that time, he played for the Minnesota Wild<\/a>, New Jersey Devils<\/a>, and San Jose Sharks. Gabriel has two goals and three assists for five career points in 49 career games. Last season, Gabriel did not score a point. He also added 55 penalty minutes. His possession numbers were 41.3 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of -5.8. Gabriel was originally drafted by the Minnesota Wild in the third round, 81st overall in the 2013 NHL draft.<\/p>\n

Joshua Ho-Sang’s NHL career has lasted three years. He last played for the New York Islanders<\/a> during the 2018-19 season. Ho-Sang has recorded seven goals and 17 assists for a total of 24 career points in 53 games. He was originally drafted by the New York Islanders in the first round, 28th overall in the 2014 NHL draft.<\/p>\n

What This Means for the Future<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Given their records on their previous teams, it’s likely that Kampf and Gabriel won’t play huge roles for the Maple Leafs in the upcoming season. However, they’re decent depth options that didn’t cost Toronto much to obtain. For Gabriel, who is from Newmarket, Ontario, it will be an especially exciting opportunity to play for his hometown team. As for Ho-Sang, his chances with the Maple Leafs are far from guaranteed. It will ultimately be his performance at Toronto’s training camp that will determine his future.<\/p>\n
