He played 266 games with the St. Louis Blues and the remainder with the Washington Capitals. He is a physical player who stands 6′-2″, 215 pounds and has handed out 706 hits while in the NHL. Jaškin also is an excellent possession player with a career Corisi For of 54.7 and a Relative Corsi of 4.6. He has recorded 103 takeaways as opposed to just 50 giveaways. It seems he fits right into general manager Bill Armstrong‘s rebuild for the Desert Dogs. Physical players who won’t get pushed around and can stick up for the smaller teammates.

As indicated in Strickland’s tweet, Jaškin has done very well in the KHL the last two seasons. He has totaled 177 games with 69 goals and 54 assists gathering 123 points. That kind of potential offence is just what the Coyotes need as they have not been the most potent offensive team in the league. There is an influx of Russian players heading to the NHL like the Minnesota Wild‘s Kirill Kaprizov who was the the team’s leading scorer with 27 goals and 24 assists in 55 games. With any luck Jaškin could possibly be the Coyotes version of Kaprizov.

Going Forward is This a Good Signing?

The Coyotes need offence and size and with Jaškin they get both. If he can get his NHL skills going again and produce, then this is another brilliant move by Armstrong.

Arizona Coyotes insider, Craig Morgan (subscription required) had this to add on the Jaškin signing.

“In two seasons with Dynamo Moscow, had more goals than any KHL player, totaling 69 in 117 games. He led the KHL with 38 goals in 59 games last season. It’s unlikely that he will be able to replicate that scoring touch in the NHL where he has never topped more than 13 goals, but he could add scoring depth and the sort of size that GM Bill Armstrong wants on his roster.

Jaškin (6-feet-2, 215 pounds) last played in the NHL with the Washington Capitals in 2018-19, but he spent five seasons with the St. Louis Blues where Armstrong was the director of amateur scouting and played a major role in drafting him with the 41st overall pick in 2011.”

It seems Armstrong does his homework and has been schooling other teams lately with the moves he’s been making.

A live look at Bill Armstrong making “trades” with other teams…. pic.twitter.com/0tnE3h8xcy

— Ronda Pearson 🩺 (@CenterIceSweety) July 22, 2021

Main Photo:

Embed from Getty Images

According to Andy Strickland – Rinkside Reporter Bally Sports Midwest, the Arizona Coyotes will be signing Dmitrij Jaškin to a one-year $3.2 million contract.
