He had eight goals and 36 assists to show a point-per-game production. He didn’t stop in the playoffs either gathering two goals and eight assists to pace his team.

In a statement to nhl.com he said, “I couldn’t be more excited knowing I’ll be calling Denver home for at least the next six years,” Makar said. “I will do everything in my power to bring a Stanley Cup to the best fans in the NHL. My Avalanche teammates are an amazing group of guys, and I can’t thank them enough as they played such a huge part in enabling me to perform at my best.

“I want to extend my appreciation to the Kroenke family, (Avalanche general manager Joe) Sakic and (assistant GM Chris) MacFarland for their longterm confidence and commitment to me. I also want to say thanks to Steve, Brian, and Scott of Bartlett Hockey for their guidance and work on this deal. I can’t wait to get back to work on October 13th at Ball Arena.”

What This Means For the Avalanche Future

While the Av’s are still negotiating to re-sign their captain, Gabriel Landeskog, signing Makar had to be a priority. He has shown that his abilities are rare especially for a young player. The team also needs to re-sign goalie Philipp Grubauer, so they had their work cut out for them.

Keeping Makar simply means the Av’s are more competitive with him on the blueline. He is almost certain to win a Norris Trophy with his production and stellar play. The Av’s have themselves a blooming superstar player and he’s now tied up for six more seasons.

Main Photo:

Embed from Getty Images

The Colorado Avalanche announced today, that they have re-signed their prize young defenceman Cale Makar.
