The Red Wings drafted the Vancouver native ninth overall in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. Rasmussen played four years in the WHL with the Tri-City Americans, registering 157 points in 161 career games. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The forward has yet to spend a full season in the NHL, most often splitting time between the Red Wings and the Grand Rapids Griffins. In 102 career NHL games, Rasmussen has 11 goals and 19 assists for 30 points. Last season with Detroit, he recorded three goals and nine assists in 40 games.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What This Means for the Red Wings<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s clear Red Wings GM <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/y\/yzermst01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Steve Yzerman<\/a> is trying to fill roster spots with his signing of Rasmussen. While his sample size isn\u2019t large, a modest contract for the center is a low-risk, high-reward move on the part of Detroit. At 22 years old, the 6\u20196&#8243; forward still has <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2021\/04\/30\/detroit-red-wings-michael-rasmussen-showing-immense-growth\/\" target=\"_self\">some room to grow<\/a> as an NHL player. The Red Wings also have experience developing power forwards like Rasmussen. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/manthan01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Anthony Mantha<\/a> is one such success story.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yzerman has plenty of spots yet to fill on his roster, with 15 pending restricted or unrestricted free agents as of Thursday. Detroit may do away with some of last year\u2019s veterans like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/f\/filppva01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Valtteri Filppula<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/gagnesa01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sam Gagner<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/ryanbo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bobby Ryan<\/a> in favor of younger players like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/bertuty01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tyler Bertuzzi<\/a>, who seems to be a target league-wide. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the signing of goaltender <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/n\/nedelal01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alex Nedeljkovic<\/a>, Yzerman is looking to solidify pieces for years to come. A core group is forming with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/larkidy01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dylan Larkin<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/f\/fabbrro01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Robby Fabbri<\/a> and pending RFA <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/v\/vranaja01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jakub Vrana<\/a>.
