He has put up 15 goals and 40 assists for 55 career points in 324 career games. Boston originally drafted in the second round, 37th overall of the 2015 NHL Draft.

Last season he scored three goals and one assist for four points in 27 games. He also added 12 penalty minutes this campaign. His possession numbers were 50.6 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of -6.1

“The Bruins are very pleased to have extended Brandon on a long-term deal,” said general manager Don Sweeney in a statement. “Brandon is a player who has grown into a foundational defenseman with our team while also emerging as an important leader on and off the ice.”

The Colorado Springs, Colo. native was limited last season due to a concussion. He only played eight Stanley Cup Playoff games before a Cal Clutterbuck hit put him out of action.

What This Means for the Future

Carlo’s cap hit fluctuates over the duration of the deal with him being due $2.5 million this upcoming season. He’ll get $3.5 million in 2022-23, $4.7 million in 2023-24, $5.45 million in 2024-25, $4.2 million in 2025-26 and $3.25 million in 2026-27. Carlo will also have modified no-trade clause starting in 2023-24.

The 24-year-old has become a staple on the right side of the defence and a shutdown defender. Carlo has shot the puck more in the last couple of seasons and is beloved by his teammates.

It’s a no-brainer that Bruins would lock up the young blue-liner after losing a few defencemen in the last couple of seasons. Kevan Miller had just retired earlier in the day after seven seasons in the league.

Embed from Getty Images

The Boston Bruins have re-signed restricted free agent defenceman Brandon Carlo to a six-year contract worth extension $24.6 million, or $4.1 million per season.
