There were many altercations in the game on Saturday, May 8th. One of which saw Lightning forward <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/maroopa01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pat Maroon<\/a> suspended. The altercation came against Panthers defenseman <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/montobr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brandon Montour<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Lightning also announced that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/goodrba01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Barclay Goodrow<\/a> is out indefinitely with an upper-body injury. That is a huge loss for the team about to enter the playoffs.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Tampa Bay\u2019s Pat Maroon has been suspended for one game for unsportsmanlike conduct for his actions during last night\u2019s game against Florida. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/eWrrx7F6v1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">https:\/\/t.co\/eWrrx7F6v1<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 NHL Player Safety (@NHLPlayerSafety) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NHLPlayerSafety\/status\/1391507652253945858?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">May 9, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h2><b>Pat Maroon Suspended<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">About 14 minutes into the third period with the game pretty much over, Montour and Maroon came together. Montour was slapped with a penalty for spearing and game misconduct for the ensuing scrum with Maroon. He was fined $5,000 for the spearing incident following the game.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The referees separated Montour and Maroon and began escorting them to the penalty box. Montour continued shouting at Maroon. It seems as though he may have crossed the line, at least based on Maroon\u2019s reaction. He escaped the grasp of the linesman who was skating him to the box and landed a heavy blow to the head of Montour. They began to wrestle on the ice as the refs tried to peel them away.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>What This Means<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ultimately, this means that there could be an all-out slugfest between these two teams in a playoff series. Surely, the energy from this game and the upcoming game will absolutely carry over when the games matter even more. As for Maroon, his presence will be difficult to replace. He brings a physical aspect to the game that Tampa\u2019s depth cannot necessarily provide. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From an offensive standpoint, the Lightning have <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/barreal01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alex Barre-Boulet<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/stephmi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mitchell Stephens<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/coltoro01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ross Colton<\/a>,<\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/smithge02.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gemel Smith<\/a><\/strong>. They can be plugged into the lineup to fill in for not just Maroon, but <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/stamkst01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Steven Stamkos<\/a> <\/strong>and others who are injured. That includes Goodrow, who does not have a timeline to return. Goodrow and Maroon were both critical depth pieces in their cup run last season.
