During the locker room warm-up before the Ottawa Senators Saturday night game against the Vancouver Canucks<\/a>,\u00a0 the Senators starting goalie for the night, Anton Forsberg<\/a>, <\/strong>sustained a lower-body injury and won’t play. \u00a0Matt Murray<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>will start, and Marcus Hogberg<\/a><\/strong> will backup.<\/p>\n

Injury update: In warming up for tonight’s game in Vancouver, #Sens<\/a> goaltender Anton Forsberg sustained a lower-body injury and will not dress this evening. Marcus Hogberg will serve as the backup.<\/p>\n

Anton Forsberg Hurt in Warmup<\/h2>\n

The Senators claimed Forsberg from the Winnipeg Jets<\/a> in mid-march because Ottawa lost their top two goalies Matt Murray and Marcus Hogberg to injury. Forsberg has played in six games for Ottawa, and he has a 3.18 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage. That is the second-highest save percentage among Senators goalies this season behind Filip Gustavsson<\/a><\/strong>. When Murray and Hogberg returned from injury, Forsberg remained the backup goalie and Hogberg was scratched.<\/p>\n

Ottawa is Forsberg’s fourth team this season. He started the year with the Edmonton Oilers<\/a> as their taxi squad goalie. The Oilers put him on waivers, but the Carolina Hurricanes claimed him. The Hurricanes put him on waivers again to send him to the taxi squad, but he was claimed by the Jets. Winnipeg scratched him for two months before putting him on waivers to send him to the taxi squad, and Ottawa claimed Forsberg. The only games Forsberg has played this season are with the Senators.<\/p>\n

This isn’t the first time the Senators lost a goalie in the warm-up. In March, Matt Murray was hurt in warmup, forcing Joey Daccord<\/a><\/strong> to play in net. Daccord beat the Toronto Maple Leafs and won his first NHL game. The Senators claimed Forsberg two days later.<\/p>\n

The Columbus Blue Jackets<\/a> drafted Anton Forsberg 188th overall in the 2011 draft. The 28-year-old Swedish goaltender has played 54 games in the NHL since the 2014-2015 season for the Blue Jackets, Chicago Blackhawks<\/a>, Carolina Hurricanes and Ottawa Senators.<\/p>\n

What This Means for the Senators<\/h3>\n

Ottawa has a plethora of goaltenders now. Ottawa went with their fourth and fifth option in Forsberg and Gustavsson after Murray, Hobgerg, and Daccord were hurt. Now all of them are back besides Daccord, so the Senators can easily make up for Forsberg’s loss. Hogberg was the Senators’ second goaltender to start the season but lost his job when he returned from injury to Forsberg. If Forsberg is out for any significant period of time, it provides Hogberg with a chance to redeem himself. In 11 games this season, Hoberg has a 4.19 goals-against average and a .866 save percentage.<\/p>\n
